I know I'm getting a little carried away with the MMA promotions on here but since Elite XC is done, I figured I would add another one I check out from time to time. There's an event on Versus tomorrow at 9PM EST. Their featherweight champ Urijah Faber is pretty damn good. He won the title in March 2007 and defended it successfully 5 times since then recently beating an MMA veteran Jens Pulver.

Anyway here's the info...

Quote:
WEC 36 is an upcoming mixed martial arts event held by World Extreme Cagefighting scheduled to take place on November 5, 2008 at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida. The event is expected to air live on the Versus Network. WEC Middleweight Champion Paulo Filho will defend his title again against Chael Sonnen in the main event of the evening . WEC Featherweight Champion Urijah Faber will also put his belt on the line against Mike Brown. The event was originally scheduled for September 10, 2008 but was postponed due to the threat of Hurricane Ike.

Main Card

Featherweight Championship bout
Urijah Faber (c) vs. Mike Brown

Middleweight Championship bout
Paulo Filho (c) vs. Chael Sonnen

Featherweight bout
Jens Pulver vs. Leonard Garcia

Middleweight bout
Jake Rosholt vs. Nissen Osterneck

Lightweight bout
Rob McCullough vs. Donald Cerrone

EDIT: actually i think its just on right now.
i guess comcast just has the wrong info.

UFC doesn't have featherweight do they?

I keep seeing Faber vs Brown 2 being advertised on Versus and it looks like it could be a good fight.

I was reading this morning that WEC is owned by Zuffa, which is the parent company of UFC. Apparently WEC only has flyweight, bantamweight, featherweight and lightweight, so it's kind of like the light division for UFC. Unfortunately that also means that they are planning on doing PPV fights instead of cable in the future.

I enjoy the WEC bout could never see myself paying to watch it even if it was $10. I have heard they were going to go to pay-per-view too but don't see it working. I am looking forward to this fight, the last one was a good fight until Faber tried getting fancy and throwing a no look elbow and got caught. Brown's got some heavy hands, should be a good one. Pulver is fighting hes one of my favorites. I didnt know Manny Gamburyan had dropped to 145 good move for him. And that guy Cerrone is tough as nails his last fight was awesome.

I forgot I made a thread on this and no one commented so I never updated it.

Anyway, Pulver almost retired tonight after losing in about 10 seconds. The 2nd fight was good too with a quick finish. Then they showed a three round slugfest. I thought the dude with the white spots all on him was gonna win for sure. Thats why you have to finish the fight and not let it go to the judges.

I'm tired as shit so I'm gonna watch the rest tomorrow sometime.

just finished watching it.
Faber and Brown went 5 rounds. Man, that was a battle. It would have been a totally different fight if Faber didnt break his hand. I'd like to see who Brown defends against next though. He's a tough dude.

That was a hell of a card. Hate to see Pulver go down like that i remember watching him a while ago in the ufc. Hope Faber gets another crack at brown that had the making of a great fight until that happened.

Faber is so quick and tough to defend I thought he would have definately won that fight if not for the broken hand. I'm not a big fan of Faber, but I was impressed he went five rounds despite the injury. Some of his counters on the ground were just plain sick.

not sure if anyone follows WEC since there havent been many comments on the last 2 fight events but Dana White is saying Brown/Aldo has potential to be fight of the year. Starts at 9PM EST tonight on VERSUS. I have a few other shows I watch tonight but I have DVR set.

Yeah I think the UFC should branch out into some lighter weight classes. Featherweight and Bantamweight have both had some pretty exciting fights.

well WEC is basically UFC's lighter weight class. They're owned by the same company. There's always rumors that they might merge but I think they like keeping them separate.

I like watching it, but the lighter weight guys just seem to never land the knockout blows so there's a lot of decisions. You rarely see the huge hits like the Fedor fight a couple weeks ago.
Brown is fun to watch though.
