Has anyone watched this show before? I had heard about it a long time ago and that it was pretty good but I never really cared to watch it. I had a new interest in it though after seeing Pineapple Express and learning that it was from Judd Apatow and starred most of the same actors that appear in all his movies. The two biggest names are probably Seth Rogan and James Franco, but there are plenty of other recognizable actors in it aside from those. Another one of the main characters is Jason Segal, the main character from Forgetting Sarah Marshall. It's probably the only other show/movie I've seen that has Thomas F. Wilson, aka Biff from BTTF.

Anyway it's a pretty good show. It takes place in 1980 and follows two siblings, a girl Lindsay (Linda Cardellini) and her younger brother Sam (John Francis Daley). Lindsay is a goodie goodie who is trying her hardest to fit in with a crowd she probably doesn't belong in (the freaks) while Same is trying his hardest to escape the crowd he fits in with (the geeks). It's a well written show and has plenty of laughs, but I don't know if I'd call it a straight up comedy. Some episodes I've seen barely have any laughs and just focus more on the drama of high school.

I can kind of understand why the show only had one season. It's an almost depressing type humor and the main characters are always being shit on. Many times there are never happy endings, and in the last episode I watched it basically ended with Jason Segel's character being pretty delusional (yet having a good time) about his drumming ability and Linsdays character being upset by the events that had gone down, pretending to act okay about everything.

It's worth checking out from what I've seen so far (about 5 or 6 episodes) so if you're into Judd Apatow's work, I suggest checking it out.

Oh, and Franco is freaking awesome in it.

Yeah I bought this like 2 years ago and loved it. It is such a great show and all the ones I really like end up getting canned. Lindsay's friend Millie creeps me out!

Man, I might check it out just based on Franko.

Just finished off the series tonight. Man, really blows that it's all the shows got. Ah well, maybe I'll check out Apatow's other canceled TV show.

Yeah I want to check out Undeclared as well. I would have liked Freaks and Geeks to have gone at least 3 seasons.

I had watched Freaks and Geeks when it first aired, and it felt really special to me. I was a freshman in high school at the time, and I was a complete nerd. I felt just like Sam. In retrospect, it was a great choice for them to pick an actual 14 year old to play a high school freshman. It just gave the thing a feeling of being genuine.

I rewatched the whole series for the first time in years just a couple of weeks ago. It's still great. I don't like Undeclared as much. It's funny, but it just doesn't match the intelligence of Freaks and Geeks.

Yeah, I was thinking how much I probably would have loved this show had I watched it when it originally aired. I would have been a Junior in HS when it came on, and I think it probably would have helped give me some much needed perspective on life at the time. There were times where I felt like Lindsay and Sam about things.

And Bill Haverchuck is the man.

This show was great, every character and storyline had a sense of realness to them, it wasn't like your typical show with ridiculous story lines and over the top hi-jinks. And also Biff as the gym teacher was pure genius, the sex-ed episode was amazing.

That episode was HILARIOUS. The scene where he's explaining the porn scene to Sam...great laughs.

I love this show too, my sis has it on DVD.

This isn't directly relevant, but there was a dodgeball scene in this show if I remember correctly. Why is it that in shows about highschool, the nerds always absolutely hate dodgeball? I don't know anyone that hates dodgeball, and I was in PE with the nerdiest kids in school. It's so much fun...Keep in mind I'm a scrawny, nerdy feller, as well.

I think I spit all over my tv screen the first time I saw Biff on this show. It came out of left field. I mean, he's not in ANYTHING I can think of off the top of my head except the BTTF trilogy.

Started slowly watching this a couple weeks ago. I think I've watched 7 episodes so far.
Its pretty great and full of well known faces. Even in small parts I keep seeing recognizable faces pop up.
Jason Schwartzman and David Koechner were in the last episode I watched.

Its really not like any other show. Pretty realistic of what high school life is like.
The freaks are pretty much the stoners though. There is a whole other group that would be considered freaks. But I guess you couldn't call the show Stoners & Geeks.
And since its 1980 the freaks probably were just the dirtbag potheads in the school.

The wife and I popped this on every now and then since starting it a few months ago.
Finally finished it last night. What an awesome show. I really loved it.

Cool glad you enjoyed it. I've been meaning to go back and rewatch this show again because we loved it too. Might have to make that a summer activity.
