Interesting article, its actually the first time I've ever heard that someone prefers renting over buying a house.

Yeah, it's all numbers and speculation. What it really comes down is personal preference I think. Depending on where you want to live, a lot of times, it's obvious to buy or rent. But a lot of other times, you could go either way and depending on your opinions of the market, you might choose one over the other.

Honestly, I don't see why not do both? If you look at the numbers its only costing me 400 more dollars a month for my mortgage then my rent costed me. Tacking on my taxes its almost 800 but for the mortgage alone its almost the same as my rent was. The real key is live at home with your parents for free and invest, that would be the only way to do it having no living costs.

Man, if only I was investing when I was 8 yrs old...

Seriously, I wish I had a time machine that went back to my first birthday...

I'd say "Dad, for my birthday....buy me 1000 shares of Microsoft".

I'd tell him that for 7 years...

Then, BAM!!

My teacher in my plumbing class tells us stories about bad experiences with owning a company and bad decisions period. He was telling us about how he bought a dumpload of money in a little company called Intel and sold it off before it hit the boom.

All kinds of stories like that...

My dad had 10000 shares in a company called Wang Computers....started by a doctor friend of his....5 cents a share.

About 11 years later, it went up to $120 or something.

My dad sold it @ about $3.

He still gets mad about that.

It's never to late to start somewhere. I had stock options with my work automatically deducted from my paycheck, but when we went private, that went away. I didn't want to get use to having that extra money in my paycheck so I started doing my own investing. I have a 5 year plan going right now so we'll see what happens in five years...

So you just started your 5 year plan? That's smart to start right now actually, instead of those that started about 2 years ago.
