Damnit dude, I didn't know you didn't have a boxed zelda. I saw one the other day for like 40 bucks on ebay under buy it now, including free shipping. Should have given a shout out for it.

Zelda was the reason why I wanted a NES to begin with. I remember looking EVERYWHERE for it back in the day. But Nintendo had their stupid policy on when they re-released games after the initial batch sold out. I remember looking in every game store we went past, hoping that they happened to still have a copy maybe in the back somewhere. I forget when I finally found one, but I do remember playing the hell out of it once I did get it (although I never really played the second quest for some reason). I still have the map that came with the game somewhere with every location I found marked. This being before the internet being widely available, I had spent hours burning every bush, and blowing up every stonewall to find all the secret places....

Chip shortages was not a Nintendo policy. Haha. Though I guess the shortage thing could have been resolved if they had let companies go with chips outside of Asia, but they wanted to control all that shit. So I guess their policy sorta had something to do with it.

I almost bought Zelda on disk off eBay several times through the years. Just never pulled the trigger. I just want to own it. I don't even care if I have the disk system or not.

Welp, this happened yesterday. I was at a Newgrounds event at their offices and a bunch of us went to a retro game store together. I came across the disk system version of Zelda AND Doki Doki Panic (Super Mario Bros 2). I asked the price of Doki first and it was 70, way too much. I asked Zelda and they said 20, which was REALLY hard to pass up. I just had a fight with my wife about money and spending it on stupid shit... but FUUUUUUUCK I COULDN'T SAY NO! So I did it, I bought it. Egoraptor made me feel better though, he plopped down 125 bucks on a boxed copy of Snow Bros for NES. Not sure anyone else walked out of there with shit. I think Rubberninja bought something. Oh I also bought Willow for NES which was only like 6 bucks.

The video game store had so much awesome shit, but I don't like the way the owner handled his prices. Nothing was marked, so you had to bring it up to the dude and he literally went onto eBay and made his prices according to how things were selling on there. I brought up a copy of Axelay and he goes through ebay and he says "I think this is going to be 20" I said "Really, I was thinking more like 13 or 14" he finally decides 20. I said to him "Okay forget it, it's on my Amazon wish list for 13." HAHAHA. Of course once you factor in shipping its close to 20, but it's just the fact of the matter.

Stores usually always over price their shit. I went to a game store to look at stuff over here and all their crap was more expensive than I've seen them online. Plus they didn't even have the games I was looking for. I think the best bet is to haggle at those cons or on craigslist.

The only way the stores get away with it, like in cases with the Zelda I bought, is that when its right in front of you it becomes convenient. I turned down Axelay for 20, something I could actually play, yet seeing something like that for the same price (that I can't play) became a no brainer. I've been eyeing up Willow on NES for ages. It's been on my Amazon wishlist for god knows how long. I could have easily bought it for a similar price off Amazon, but when you see it right in front you it becomes harder to say no.

I just looked up the price on Zelda, and it looks like I actually got a solid deal on that. Looks like most people are selling it loose for 30.

I will say Next Level Games is very competitive with their prices. Like you said, a lot of these retro stores are way overpriced. I know that shop in NYC is ridiculous. But Next Level has been fair with their prices, and they mark everything before hand so there is no funny business before you buy it. Also, I personally think it makes it easier to buy more when you see the price right there. I was hesitant to really through this collection because I had to ask for EVERYTHING and the store was packed with people, so I really picking and choosing. There have been times at NLG where my hands are full in about 5 minutes.

Yeah I've gotten their checks before through their rev sharing. They're nifty! Their offices are quite sweet indeed. I got a quick tour aside from the main area the party was in. They have a big warehouse type area that has a ton of couches, bean bags, a kegerator and a huge HD projector in there. Next to that is an apartment suite, which they actually had a bunch of guys from Australia staying in for the week. I was hanging out in there for a bit. There's a small kitchen, bunk beds, couch bathroom and then a bedroom. The office itself has a handful of offices, and a large conference room. Their main floor is mainly open with a handful of cubes. In the back is a huge TV with a ton of consoles hooked up to it. Next to there is a mini bar area with fridge. It looks like an awesome place to work at.

I thought I had Willow but looking at my list of games on the other thread, I don't have it listed, so maybe I don't. I know I played at least part of it because I remember being a bridge on the castle fighting those monkey things.

I played the hell out of Willow because I loved that movie when I was a kid. One of the few I actually got to see in the theaters at a young age.

I recently picked up a little old licensed (I guess) N64/SNES storage container, so I got my N64 games in a somewhat organized location now. They are still impossible to identify from the top, but at least they aren't stacked all on top of one another.

It's pretty neat. I'd like to get a few more for my SNES games.

I had that thing back in the day. I definitely know what you are talking about, it's impossible to tell which game is which unless you have some coloured cartridges.

From a quick look around the internet, they are kind of rare. There are some ridiculous Ebay auctions going on right now for those sorts of things. Like $50 for the one I have in worse condition. Eff that.

Maybe I'll get a ton of hard plastic cases and print out some inserts for the SNES stuff. It'll be a bit of work, but it will look really nice when it's all done.

Cool Nate. I have a similar official Coleco vision case like the N64 one. I believe it's broken though. If I remember correctly, it was designed so the console could sit on top of it, but I don't have the top piece.

Guess this could go here.

I got it in my head to look for a candy cabinet again. It's so hard to find one of these, and from what I'm finding out, is even harder to find on the east coast. I've come across some really awesome American wood cabs, but they're just too fucking big and heavy. This is all I want:

Image

Am I really asking for too much here? haha.

Also, I went to the TNT Amusements website to see if they sold them, which they don't, and ended up looking through their stock. Their shit is super expensive, but that's because all of it is reconditioned. They really do an awesome job. I came across a video they did of an original Donkey Kong in a Radar Scope cab that they put together. Thing looks incredible when they're done with it.

Fuuuuuuuuuuuckkk I'm doing some reading around on the Neo-Geo forums and it looks like there was a Philly group purchase of Candy Cabs. The prices seemed a bit high, but still... shiiit. I think the cabs are actually being dropped off at Next Level Games. I almost want to go there that day to see this go down.

Shiiiiit I might get lucky. There's a guy from Chicago that is coming to Philly to pick up a new cab when they arrive. He has three cabs already and wants to get rid of his Blast City. Said he was willing to take a hit on the price AND bring it down to Philly with him. I might buy it off him.

My excitement is rising.
