This is a pointless point. I'm not arguing Batman's validity as a symbol, just that him not killing dudes is ineffective. He can be a symbol of justice all he likes, but he's just scooping water out of a sinking boat. He needs to eliminate the holes.

I don't think Batman should kill the criminals either. I'm just stating my general stance on criminals.

You're kind of right with your analogy. He is just scooping water out of the boat. He is doing his job in hopes that the others will do their job. He is not a replacement for the law, he just assists it. Batman's goal is to help and inspire Gotham so that they can clean up the city properly so that he CAN move on from being Batman. He only wants to be Batman for as long as it takes. He has no interest in going around killing thugs, because like others have said, thugs are just replaced with new thugs.

And this is why Batman is the best.

Batman still kicks the shit out of people all the fukin time. I am pretty sure that even as a criminal, you don't want some dude beating the shit out of you. Especially one who has no oversight and can just beat you repeatedly. Think about how good children used to be when we were allowed to beat them..Now we can't and it is anarchy.

He just doesn't need to kill to make shit heads think twice about committing crimes. Because now in addition to going to jail, they will also get the shit scared and kicked out of them. It is an added risk and something you can't really plan for. Most good criminals take these things into consideration when planning crimes. Stupid criminals would just be scared and be less likely to commit crimes as well. It is an added deterrent, which is what his plan was all along. He wants to augment the justice system, not replace it.
