Similar story except not all futuristic and not District-based. It's a class of really bad Japanese kids. Their old teacher (who one of them attacked with a knife in the past) now works for the government and they have been chosen to be the class for this years Battle Royale. Basically they give each student a backpack with some bread/water and a random "weapon" (some get guns others get shit like binoculars) and then they are thrown out onto the island. They are given 3 days and by the end there is to be only 1 student left alive otherwise these explosive collars locked around their neck will explode. The collar also explodes if they "cheat" or if they are located in one of the "Death Zones" on the island (which change every once in awhile and the new ones are announced.

It's pretty ridiculous but it's also great.

I think we need to prepare ourselves for when he hates Batman.

I thought Hunger Games was good but not great.
Of course they "teen" it up. Its not as violent as I thought it would be. And its pretty lovey dovey in some parts.
But it was a good movie. I enjoyed it and it didnt feel like it was over 2 hours. But its not going to make my Top 10 of the year.

Yeah Battle Royale is a lot better.
I told my wife about it and she couldn't believe that it was pretty much the same movie.

I was asking last night about if Hunger Games was a chick book, because the only people talking about how great it is, are women.

There's violence and shit, but it's still a young adult book and reads as such.

21 Jump Street
Even though it was stupid, its really funny. Lot of laugh out loud moments. Channing Tatum actually had me cracking up. Hard to believe. And James Franco's little brother looks JUST like him from the Freaks & Geeks days. Lots of funny side characters and like Paul said, a cool cameo at the end. Johnny Depp and the other no name guy from the TV show 21 Jump Street reprise their roles. Funniest movie of the year so far... but thats not saying much since I can't even think of what it would be going up against.

Well I only read the books because my female friends kept telling me how great it was. The books may be aimed at teens but if they were to adapt it 100% accurately the movie would for sure be R rated. The first book was pretty great the 3rd one was disappointing. So far almost everyone I know who read the book loved it. I think a lot of non-book readers who aren't as invested in the characters are giving it like 3/5 or like 7/10 and such.

I just got back from seeing it and never read the books, I enjoyed it. It was good and I really liked some of the characters and the plot. The only thing I would say it needed was more blood and violence and maybe some better camera work on the action scenes. Stanley Tucci was great as always and I think Jennifer Lawrence is a hot tamale. I would give it an 8 out of 10. I might be biased though...I love me some Sci-Fi.

See that's the issue. The books were very violent yet were aimed at teens. So to keep the target audience they had to make it PG-13 and movies are much more strict about what can be shown for a movie to receive the PG-13.

Yeah it was nothing they could do...If it was R it would have been a total flop. I really liked it though and I am looking forward to Catching Fire.

Hoe did they handle Rue's death with the PG-13 rating?

they didnt show the spear thing actually penetrate her. You just see the look on her face and she falls down and Katniss grab her and pulls it out.
Then you just see some blood on her shirt.

Yeah they show it sticking out of her and yanked out but she isn't impaled on a side note I actually liked the score as well.

It wasn't awesome but it was entertaining. Toned down violence to attract a younger crowd and some lovey dovey going on.
Battle Royale for the Twilight generation. I'll see the sequels but I'm not pumped for them by any means.

Yeah #3 of all time. And #1 for a non-sequel.
