The belly is getting BIG!!!

Next Thursday, the 23rd, we find out the sex of the baby. Of course we can't just find out like normal people. We have to make a production out of it.
The ultrasound is at 8AM and we are getting the doctor to write the sex on a piece of paper. We're not going to look at it. Mandy is taking it to a bakery and getting them to bake a cake with blue or pink coloring inside depending on the sex. Then we're having the families over for dinner and the cake is dessert. We'll slice that bad boy open and all find out at the same time. Its gonna be tough getting through the work day knowing we could have found out at 8AM but we're waiting until probably 7 that night. We already have names picked out for boy and girl. I guess we're not 100% yet but pretty much.

After this though, its just a waiting game. A little less than 5 more months of that belly growing and growing.

That's a neat idea, very clever. Should be exciting! You should post a slice of the cake on FB for us that can't be there with no text, just the slice. Haha.

I'm dealing with hard Dad things right now. Helena had a sleep study done on Thursday which she did not perform well on. They told us she has sleep apnea (where you stop breathing for periods of time). Each time you stop it's called an apnea. She apparently averages about 70 apneas an hour. We had an appointment on Monday over at the Children's Hospital in Philly where we met with the doc. He went over the test results and told us he wanted to do surgery right away. Normally for this they schedule surgery out by about four months, he wanted to do this like next week, but she has a slight sold so they need to hold off. Her surgery is scheduled for the 8th of March. She is getting her tonsils, and adenoids removed, and she might get ear tubes. He told us the tonsils look okay, but he wants everything out to clear her up. It was supposed to be a quick appointment and I had to end up calling out of work. We were shipped off to do a hearing test and then she had to get blood work done. She was a wreck by the end. So were we. The surgery has a two week recovery time and my boss was cool enough to offer me the chance to work from home those two weeks. I'll be getting a new work laptop (which I was supposed to get anyway but now getting sooner) to replace my old Dell Tower. I'm pretty thankful about that.

After that long day Dem had to go back to work and she worked late, so I had baby duty. Made them dinner and gave them a bath together and put them to bed. That day was not a great day. It was tough.

They had their regular appointment yesterday and got three needles each. They took them like a champ, I was surprised. Normally they freak the fuck out. Helena looked like she was trying hard not to cry, and Celeste just sat there like a lump. Doc appointments are a bitch now BTW. The girls just want to go crazy the entire time and there is no place for them to go crazy at.

Every bit of that sounds fukin terrible. Sorry for the trouble Phil. I'm sure it sucks when your kid is sick. Not just because you have to deal with it, but I am sure you just don't like anything being wrong with them.

Bobby still flips out but he calms down minutes after the shots. Sucks about the girls, sleep apnea I thought was really only for grossly obese people. Better its taken care of now though.

Edit And that cake thing seems to be the new deal parents do. Sounds like fun... and delicious haha

Yeah apparently sleep apnea is one of those things that a lot of people secretly have their whole life and might not ever know it. Dem is now trying to push me to getting a sleep study done because she said I show signs of having sleep apnea. I might do it, can't hurt and insurance covers the whole thing.

Yeah man if your insurance covers it you may as well do it. Better to be safe man, especially with a wife and two kids.

Yeah Mandy heard about someone else doing it. Mark & Laura are doing it too.
We didn't come up with it. I don't want to make it like we thought of this on our own. hahaha

Its kinda cool that we all find out together. My sister has class and Mike will be at work so won't be able to Skype. So its basically Mandy's whole family and my parents. haha

Can't wait for the cake.

Why does Demi think you have sleep apnea Phil? Are you snoring a lot?

I can't believe she has 70 apneas in an hour. That's crazy. I hope everything works out okay.

don't worry phil, the health risks with getting the tonsils/adenoids/ear tubes removed earlier are less, also the recovery should only be a day or two! Just be sure NOT to give her ice cream, that shit will hurt so bad, stick with jell-o and ice chips. Also you're doing a favor by getting those tonsils out as well, it's so goddamn painful to get them removed later.

Thanks. They already told us the recovery was going to be two weeks though, not two days. They said she'll probably have to spend two days in the hospital.

And Russ, yeah I snore real bad and I'm always tired.

Hey Manfre, is Mandy planning on doing a natural birth? Are you guys getting a doula? You guys taking a birthing class? We took one of those things. It's actually really helpful. We went to this chick in Philly. She was really nice. But I think out of the 6 women in the class, maybe only 2 didn't end up getting a cesarean. One of them being my wife. I think the other one might have even done it without epi.

As of right now, yeah she's going natural. But both of her sisters said that too and ended up having to do a C-section for whatever reason. So if everything goes according to plan then she will be doing it natural.
I have no idea what a doula is. haha I just looked it up and no we never talked about that. I don't think Mandy even knows what it is either. Who knows.
And yeah we have 2 baby classes scheduled in the next couple months. One is a birthing class and one is like baby CPR or something.

Well if she's serious about doing it natural, check out this person. We had her and she was pretty great. You can tell her I referred you. Maybe you can get a discount. haha. It actually wasn't that much anyways.

We did a birthing class and it was total nonsense, breathing exercises that get thrown out the window when its game time. John she's going natural? Like no drugs? Or does she just want to go vaginally. Be prepared to have your mind blown, because its like the wild west when shit goes down.

The class I took wasn't about what to do during the delivery. It wasn't actually a birthing/lamaze class. It was a class on what you can do to perpare yourself for a natural birth. Things you can eat, exercises you can do. Also information on how you'll be feeling throughout your pregnancy. It was actually a series of classes. It's mostly for the woman but it's still good for the man to know what the woman is going through.

By the way, I couldn't look directly at it, I had stand on the other side. I thought I might throw up or faint if I actually witnessed the emergence.

Ours was like 3 classes, mostly breathing exercises for people to cope with the pain if going in drugless. Colleen knew she was getting an epidural so it was really a wash. Colleen really took the class for peace of mind, but it really ended up just being a waste of money.

I looked straight into the beast and I wasn't disappointed, absolutely wild shit.

I have no idea what she's doing actually. Probably not natural with no drugs. I guess I meant vaginal if natural means no drugs.
She's not a big pain person so drugs will most likely be flowing.

And yeah I was against these classes but if it makes her feel better then what the hell.

Oh and I am definitely NOT looking into the eye of the beast.

Of course this had to happen.
The baby was not co-operating and wouldn't open its legs. The doctor really tried for a long time.
She said she was 85% sure but still... that kind of ruins the cake idea.

We're still going to do it because 85% is high but man, it could be wrong still. 15% chance its the opposite of what the doc wrote on the paper.
Mandy wants to get a 3D ultrasound in a few weeks just so we don't buy a bunch of shit and we're wrong.
We planned on registering for the baby shower all day tomorrow. We took off to do it. So now... eh I dont know.

From what we gather, the baby was either doing a mangina and the doc couldn't see the penis. Or there is no penis, and its a vagina.
I bet the 85% is just them thinking its a girl. So now I think I'm having a girl. We'll see what they thought later tonight.

HAHAHAHHAHAAHAHAH

Well congrats if it's a girl. I know you were kinda set on a boy, but you'll get over that real quick.

Well I honestly don't care either way. I'm not going to be upset if the reveal is a girl tonight. I'll be happy either way. The best news of the ultrasound is that the baby is 100% healthy and looking great.
But I'm a guy so I'd love to have a boy someday. With a girl there's a lot more to learn. hahaha

My wife actually made an appointment for another ultrasound at 4 tomorrow.
They have a money back guarantee where they can confirm the gender because people pretty much only make appointments with them if their doctor couldn't get a good look. Our doctor's office confirmed that its a good place. Its 90 bucks.

She's gonna make sure she has some caffeine in her system so the baby moves around. haha
