Me and JW went to a free Mixed Martial Arts class at this place in Cherry Hill (I think) and it was pretty damn awesome.
But it was like $130 a month. It was a 2 hour class though and an awesome workout.

Taught some Jiu Jitsu and Muay Thai Kickboxing. And just a bunch of cardio and basics of fighting.

A lot of what you learn in karate class is not very applicable. It's good exercise though. It also depends on the school. The one I went to wasn't all that great. But I didn't really do it to become a karate master, it was mostly for the cardio exercise. If you want to learn to kick someone's ass, your best bet is to do MMA. I think they actually teach you stuff you can use in the streets. Most importantly is learning how to fight on the ground because 90% of the time, the fight will end up on the ground. Jujitsu is awesome. You learn real fast how out of shape you are when you do that shit.

Karate is more of a point fighting system then self defense.

I would recommend Jiu Jitsu. Small women can tap out a big muscular guys if they know what they are doing (and the guy does not). It's more about leverage and shit than pure strength. Also the ability to choke someone unconscious would be useful because you would have plenty of time to get away.

However if it is more than 1 on 1 Jiu Jitsu is basically useless. Although to be fair most times when it's more than 1 on 1 you're fucked.

Yeah Muay Thai and Jui Jitsu sound sweet. I would do those, but yeah money and time are the issue. Maybe one day in my future.

p90x is next on my list to do once the weather warms up again. Even though it hasn't been real cold it's still too cold to get my ass out of bed in the morning for a workout.

How long are the sessions?

About 45 minutes to an hour. They're long and brutal.

After I exercise I usually try and follow it up with something healthy to eat or drink. It's usually something like greek yogurt or fruit, though sometimes I'll make some sort of smoothie and chug it.

Last night I made a kale shake and it was one of the worst things I ever drank. I've made kale shakes before for after workouts (I had a good one on Monday), but I generally have enough stuff to put in there that it tastes good, like a thing of yogurt or fruit. We're low on those things. I only had a kids size chobani yogurt and no fruit. To make up for the fruit I used some of the girl's juice. So it was kale, water, and a tiny bit of yogurt. First off it was so pulpy and runny that I had to strain it. The texture of all the kale pulp almost made me throw up. After I strained it, it was much easier to go down. I think I drank it in two gulps. But man that was tough to drink. I'll never rely on kale as the main ingredient ever again.

Hahahahahahahaha. Okay I won't talk about drinks anymore.

I ate some Raisin Bran this morning though. I liked that.

How'd your p90x go Phil?

I think I'm going to start after my vacation next week.

It's going good. I have actually been really bad for the last two weeks, but I plan on getting back on track next week. I feel awful too, like I really gotta start doing it again. My legs are so achy right now, my back hurts and I feel so tired. It's amazing how different you feel when you stop exercising regularly.

Anyway, yeah, it's worth checking out. I don't do it how you're supposed to do it (l do it 3 - 4 times a week) but I still see results. I'm not looking to get cut or anything, but I actually have some shape to my chest, arms, abs and legs ever since doing it. Much more noticeable physical changes over the last six months vs the six months I spent with EA Active.

Eh, a decent amount I guess. My wife and I have been doing it together the last few months and I usually give her more space, it's a bit tight for me. Some exercises have you running forward and backward (like four decent steps ahead and back) but you could always modify it and do it in place. You also "need" a pull up bar. I was going to get one for my bathroom door (which is right near the TV) but I never did, so I usually do a few push ups when they do pull ups and then skip ahead.

I guess if you want to test out how much room you need, in whatever space you plan on using, just push your body out to its extremes, if that makes sense. Like, lay down, put your arms all the way out, spread your legs out, see if you have enough room to do small jumps from side to side, stuff like that. If you have enough room to move around, you should be okay.

If you go to Uni, why don't you just use the gym facilities there?

Because Tony Horton isn't there.

I'm currently not at Uni and I have a health issue that can prevent me from leaving the direct area I'm in for awhile.

So my P90X time was getting a bit low for a few weeks there. The week of the fourth I actually didn't do a single work out. Anyway I've gotten back into the swing of things since then. Last week was fucking hard as shit, this week is going a bit smoother. I guess that first week was just my body getting used to things again.

I also decided I'm going to try and do 100 push ups a day through the day, starting today haha. I usually do a few push ups here and there, I don't normally count but I imagine probably close to 100 on the days I remember. I closed my office door and just did a set along with some streches, so I'm at 60 for the day. Should be cake to knock out the rest. I hope I stick with it.

Cool, maybe I'll give that a shot. I think I can get about 50-60 push ups. But that was a long time ago and I think I'm stronger now so maybe I can get to 70 now. But I don't know.

Push ups are supposed to be good for your core too, so maybe that would help your back a bit Phil?
