Do you remember when you checked Suzanne into the concrete wall during hockey and she cried? I do and remember that like it was yesterday? hahahaha

Or when he hung Stinger from his safety belt in a tree.

my wife sent me this link, and it really took me back a bit. it made me think of the holiday season fast approaching us.

someone collected and scanned in a shit ton of holiday catalogs from 1942 to 1996 which is when I guess they stopped printing them? when these things showed up at the door in the mail, it was officially holiday season as every today a kid could ever want was there. i can remember staring at these things for hours and circling my favorite toys that i hoped i would get from santa.

anywho, here it is:

I of course went to the 89 Sears catalog to see all the gaming stuff. Shocked to see some Atari 2600 stuff in there. DIdn't think you'd be able to buy something like Pitfall brand new then (at a whole 15 dollars no less). Considering all that stuff was part of the crash, it was weird to see it featured in there. Nuts to see the 7800 too. Next to the NES and especially the Gen that thing looked like a relic.

Really crazy to see the NES in its most important years going head on with the Genesis. NES prices were lower than I had thought. Seems the average game was 40 and not 30. Only a handful of Gen games were in the 60 range. Guess the prices didn't start getting nuts until a year or two later.

The Wish Book was how I made my Christmas list every year.

I agree, I fucking hate it. It's one thing for a stupid store to start putting christmas items out, but whole damn towns have already decorated. Fuck them and fuck christmas. Thanksgiving is the bomb yo!

I do love Thanksgiving, but I'd be lying if I told you I did not put Christmas music on in my car after I bought a Wii U. It was my early gift, I needed to celebrate early. Hahah.

my thing is why are we just spending shit and giving gifts on a day that logically, is completely meaningless. buy yourself a fukin wiiu any time you fukin please because you earned that money. i also hate valentines day, mothers day and fathers day for the same reason. this needing a day to be nice to someone or to buy shit is fukin stupid.

It's only meaningless if you view it to be meaningless. I really like Christmas. It's a little crazy the amount of money we're "expected" to spend, but it's fun. I think it's mostly worth it.

And while I did earn that money to buy the U, I also don't want Dem to feel like she needs to buy me something for Christmas still since I just spent all of that money on myself. So I told her this would count as my gift.

It's weird, if i didn't make such big ticket gaming purchases this year, I would have spent the least amount of money on video games than I have in years. That Arcade cab and the U in one year was a lot.

i only meant that it seems to push people more towards grand gestures instead of giving a shit everyday. also creates a lot of waste all at once.

but i see what you are saying.

I hate giving gifts and asking for gifts. I suck at it.

On the other hand I LOVE sitting around watching football and stuffing my face with food.

I have become a worse gift giver with age. I used to be really into it. I still like giving gifts but for whatever reason I have a much harder time picking things for people now. Occasionally I'll come up with something good but it's becoming more and more rare.

Yeah I'm the worst.
I never have any ideas for my wife. She usually makes a huge list and I'll just pick some things off of it.
Thats totally not fun at all, but at least she doesnt know exactly what she'll get. hahaha

I suck at giving and receiving gifts too. I never know what I want. Usually, I won't want anything. I'm the worst person to shop for. Like Irate said, if I want something, I got out and buy it. I don't need a holiday to tell me to buy shit. I earned that money. But I do hold on buying things that I don't necessarily need but would like to have. I think this year, I'll just ask for that 50mm lens for my camera. Even though it would technically be a gift for the family, I would probably get the most use out of it. Normally, I think I just ask for more clothes. I still have no idea what to get my wife. She's not the most easiest person to shop for either. Also when I get gifts, it's 1 thing per person. None of this massive amount of gifts bullshit. Oh, and I should probably get something for my son too. But he's still too young to know what Christmas is. I'm sure grandma and grandpa will get plenty for him anyways.
