So you guys know I have back pain. No matter how comfy the chair I always end up with pain shooting down my leg. Apparently the chairs we have at work are pretty fancy and cost about 400 dollars a pop. It's not good enough for me and through time I've added a back support cushion and recently one of those sloped pads with a little hole in the back where your tail bone would rest. These do nothing for me.

Lately I've been sitting on a fitness ball. It actually works fairly well so far and I think this might be my new preferred method of sitting at a desk. My back doesn't hurt nearly as bad and I'm learning better posture too.

I guess most people would say "I sit in a seat" but the boards are dead today and I had to come up with something to talk about.

Yeah it's weird, I've been thinking of doing it for a long while but knew I'd be made fun of so I never did it. A bunch of the girls in the office started doing an exercise ball routine every day and some of them started sitting on the balls (hur hur) during the day. They gave up and the balls have just been hanging around (derp) so this one dude asked if he could borrow one to use as a seat to see how he'd feel. He loved it, the guy in front of him borrowed one too and then he loved it. So then I decided to try and I think I like it too. So the three of us sit with a ball now.

I have actually been borrowing a woman's ball for the last week as a trial. I just ordered my own from Amazon this morning. Should be here on Wednesday.

I had coworkers sit on a fitness ball at work. It's not that uncommon. It does promote good posture. I sit on a regular computer chair. It works just fine for me.

This immediatly reminded me of The Office when Dwight was sitting on the fitness ball and Jim popped it with scissors haha

But anyway I need to look into a better chair, if I sit for long periods of time my back starts hurting. Could be just bad posture though. i find when im leaning over typing or witing is when it starts to hurt.

using a fitness ball for a chair is good for overall core strength. several people in my office use them. my detal hygenist actually uses one as well, it has a little wheeled attachment so she can wheel around with it. my office chair is supposed to be ergonomic, but it sucks more than my 60$ office depot chair at home.

At home, i sit on a shitty wooden dining room chair. I can't sit on it for more than like 10 min without my tailbone starting to hurt. One day when i have a desk again, i'll get a real chair. I've been thinking about a standing desk at work lately, actually. ANyone know anybody who uses on?

Steve/Solidefy uses a standing desk and loves it.

All you would need is a few phone books to stand on so you could reach the keyboard.

I'd love a desk that could somehow be raised when you wanted to stand up for a bit. I saw it on the youtubes once.

That's what Steve uses. It's all adjustable I think.

I don't know if I'd like to stand either. Sometimes when I play video games I stand up, but I usually sit back down after a few minutes.

I just imagine lifting it up for the first time only to discover that all your wires are too short.

Hahah yeah dude that is completely possible. I don't think I'd be able to do it with my setup at home. I have to pull things like my Cintiq as it is.

I sit on this crappy residence chair that kind of tilts back. It;s weird. Like 1 metal piece that kind of looks like a Z if you look at it from the side with a not so cushy cushion thing to sit on and one for your back.

It's not the worst but it is not too great.

Thats my desk at work. I have a tall drafting chair that I sit in here and there when my feet start to hurt. Out of an 8 hour day I probably stand for 7. I definitely feel a lot more energized at the end of the day. When I sat in a chair all day I'd usually slouch and get tired from doing nothing.

At home I just have a normal office chair. I feel less guilty about sitting at the computer for a couple hours at night after standing all day.
