Figured I'd make just one big Game Club thread from here on out. We'll post links and all that good stuff as well as share impressions in here.

I played a bunch of Shatterhand yesterday and today. I decided about five minutes ago that I had enough punishment and have stopped playing. Actually, when I bought this game and originally played it I made it to the final stage then as well, I just didn't remember right away. As I played the final stage though, I remembered why I gave up the first time.

Anyway, we're recording tomorrow night, so play Shatterhand! Figure out a way to play it.

ahem.

I played the game for 4 hours last night. I remember renting this one when I was a kid, but I never got very far. I loved it from the first punch that sent someone flying across the screen before exploding. There's actually a good amount of strategy in the power up system. Choosing the right helper robot is important, but the invincible power armor is amazing. After I realized how to activate it, I felt like I was pretty much unstoppable. Then I got to the last level. The change in difficulty was drastic. I hate those guys with the machine guns and grenades. Add in the fact that you have to fight 3 of the bosses you already beat at some point, AND a final boss, with no checkpoints, and I finally gave up. I kind of wish the level select had more purpose and that the controls in the underwater level weren't so messed up, but they are minor flaws in a great overall package.

I'll just leave this here.

Ah so its only three bosses before the final boss? I made it to the third boss and almost had him beat. I assumed you had to do them all again. When I died and started at the start of the stage that's when I just gave it a giant "Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck."

Shatterhand episode is up!

http://elder-geek.com/2011/09/elder-gee ... atterhand/

The voting for the next episode is between Ikaruga and the upcoming Radiant Silvergun, both of which can be found on XBox360. Radiant Silvergun doesn't come out until next week though!

Phil, I made it as far as you did, the weird flying alien boss guy after the gravity flipping section. I looked up a video after I had given up to see the end. I'm pretty sure I can beat it, it's just so demoralizing to keep getting kicked back to the beginning of the stage over and over. Ninja Gaiden is similar, but at least in that one, when you beat a boss, he's done. Damn you Shatterhand.

Area F was the most frustrating part of the game for me before I hit the final level. I was determined to get the power armor because the boss was just destroying me over and over. Needless to say, my robot died 9 times out of 10, and most of the times I did get him up to the top, I didn't have enough power-ups to start up the armor form. Had to play it a bunch of times before I was able to get a perfect run, but it paid off. I absolutely trashed the boss. When I had to fight him again in the final level, I was definitely choking back some tears. Hate that guy.

Thanks for the shout out. I'm really enjoying the podcast, and I'm happy to contribute. Any excuse to beef up the collection hahaha. I'm terrible at shmups, so I'm expecting a barrage of curse words with whatever the next game is.

No prob man, thanks for always taking part!

Area F boss is the dude with the sword right? I also beat him with the power armor by chance if so. When you fight him on the final stage though I figured out the trick to him and got it down. But I think he's easier in the final stage because you dont have those gears coming down at you either.

Exactly. On the last level it still took me a few tries, but it was definitely a lot easier without all the environmental hazards.

If anyone is even mildly interested, Ikaruga is the game for GC #7.

I'll see if i can get it for GC, or if it's on a site somewhere but

http://www.amazon.com/Ikaruga-GameCube/ ... 165&sr=8-1

over 100$ for the top amazon? ridiculous.

You can get it for 20 used at Gamestop. Use their store locator.

BTW lack of interest in Game Club around these parts is making me feel like we shouldn't even post about it here anymore. Nate is the only one that plays.

I'll try to find my controller for my PC. I have an old one but it no longer fits into the sound card in my PC. It's too out of date.

i dont think i;ll be able to play ikaruga, but i've certainly played my fair share of it back in the day with you, phil. so i have a few thoughts on it.

i'm not one for shooters (except for NES's lifeforce which i love), but i enjoy ikaruga's spin on the genre. the color mechanic adds an extra layer of depth to it, and makes you have to kind of have to learn how to switch the way you view the game on the fly. its very clever and keeps you on your toes. i also like how its old school in design, the same enemies come out and shoot in the same patterns, which encourages you to perfect your runs and get higher scores.

I know no one here cares about GC anymore, but we're recording tonight. Thoughts on Ikaruga are welcomed.
