Sports Radio 610AM WIP has taken over 94.1FM WYSP in Philly.
One of the remaining local rock stations in Philly has gone to Sports Talk format.

Not that I really care because I don't listen to regular radio but it sucks for the rock fans that lose a channel.
Good gain for sports talk fans that get better quality audio and new programming.

Quote:
5:30-10:00AM
Angelo Cataldi and the Morning Team with Rhea Hughes and Al Morganti:
Each morning a Philly favorite former athlete joins the show for unique insight into sports. Among the guests include Keith Jones (Flyers) and Ricky Bottalico (Phillies), as well as a Philadelphia Eagle to be named at a later date.

10:00AM-1:00PM:
The Mike and Ike Show:
Featuring current Comcast SportsNet host Michael Barkann and former Eagle All Pro Ike Reese, this show will provide listeners with unparalleled analysis, and opinions from the biggest names in sports.

1:00-6:00PM
Anthony Gargano and Glen Macnow:
WIP’s highly successful midday show moves to late afternoon. The duo has consistently been Philadelphia’s No. 1 most listened to sports show in their current timeperiod.

6:00-10:00PM:
Rob Ellis or sports play-by-play

Overnights will be handled by Big Daddy Graham, broadcasting from 2:00-5:30AM.

About time. 94 has been in a constant state of disarray since the moment Howard said he was leaving regular radio. It's an awful station that was almost unknowingly stuck in the 90s. Though it finally did earn the tag line "The Rock You Grew Up With" when someone realized all they were playing was Nirvana and Pearl Jam for the last 20 years.

HAHAHAHAHHAHA I just said the same thing on the BS Board.
I even used Nirvana and Pearl Jam as my examples.

It really has been the same for as long as I can remember. Not like there's a lot of great new rock music to play.
Thats why satellite is the way to go!!! Even the rock stations play new stuff if you're into that. You can go to the 90s station for 90s rock.

Seriously, I never want to hear the song Jeremy ever again. Ever.

I get free Siris/XM for 3 months since we bought the new car and whenever I drive it, I listen to it. It's pretty great. I'll be sad to lose it. The all Pearl Jam station might just be the best station ever invented. And the best part is, I've never heard Jeremy once on it. They play all their songs. Mostly live stuff and I love it. I switch between the Pearl Jam station and Liquid Metal. I also have all 80's and 90's saved but whenever I turn on those, it's mostly crap. I'm glad "the rock I grew up with" is going away. Even though it doesn't affect me at all. It's those rock stations that had me stop listening to any sort of classic rock / pop rock after high school. I just had enough.

I'm not a huge Pearl Jam fan so I haven't gone to that channel.
I only get 10 presets on my radio and I rarely go to anything else because I don't know channel numbers.
I have Liquid Metal, Octane, Classic Rewind, Classic Vinyl, The Boneyard, Elvis Radio, 70s on 7, 80s on 8, 90s on 9, The Virus.
70s and 80s aren't really that good so I might replace them. 90s is hit or miss but its a fun listen every now and then.

You probably hate Pearl Jam for the same reason I hate Nirvana. That's right. 94.1 WYSP, the rock you grew up with. The only Nirvana I can stand listening to is the MTV Unplugged CD. That is all. Hearing the first riff to Smells Like Teen Spirit immediately triggers my brain to go for the change channel button. Kind of like the first riff to You Shook Me All Night Long. Man, all these songs. I HATE THEM!

Pearl Jam is great. I'd listen to an all Pearl Jam station. They were probably the best band to come out of the whole grunge era. I mean, there's a reason why they are still selling out arenas and putting out new albums to this day. Can't say that about 90% of the other bands from that time.

I don't listen to Nirvana anymore, but I don't hate them. I used to love them. I've just heard their songs too much. That's not all the radio's fault either, as I played the cassette of Nevermind over and over. It's not exactly deep music. Once you've heard a Nirvana song once, you pretty much have gotten all you are going to get from it.

They don't really get overplayed where I live. There is only one station that plays them with any regularity, but the rest of the stations just play shit from the 70's and 80's.

I'd do my best to avoid listening to lots of radio. It's only going to ruin music for you.

The only radio I listen to anymore is 91.7 WKDU which is Drexel University's station. Theres pretty much always something on there that I want to listen to. Other than that I throw in my ear buds and listen to a podcast or something.

Someday I'll get rid of my shitty 1998 car and buy something with modern features like an audio input for an ipod.

Also, as far as WYSP is concerned, I feel bad for people losing their jobs. But that station's lazy as fuck approach to programming got them exactly what they deserve. For all the reasons previously mentioned in this thread.

fuck an input for an ipod. the new shit is a usb input where you can just hook up a flash drive full of music and stop suckling on the apple teat altogether. fuck them and their teats and their itunes and their lack of enterprise support. they can go suck on a big cock full of pancreatic cancer.
