HAHAHAHAHAH.

But yeah people are throwing a fit over the DVD/Blu Ray thing. Here's something, who gives a shit? DVD is a dying format, it's like wishing your PS3 could play VHS tapes. Blu Ray, while I love the format, still has an iffy future ahead of it. I don't think it'll ever become the dominate force like DVD was/is. Plus, Sony has its paws all over BR and you can be sure companies like MS and Nintendo don't want to give them ANY money.

The future is in streaming content, and I have no doubt that Wii U will support streaming services like NetFlix. So, I don't see what the issue is really.

Yeah, not having blu ray / dvd is irrelevant. As long as It has netflix who cares.

...Are we just talking about not having DVD/Bluray movie support, or format support in general? If it's just movies, which I guess it has to be, then I don't really care either. A bluray player is always a plus though.

Personally I don't see DVD really dying here yet. I still buy DVDs.

I also still do not use Netflix. I'm sure it's great but I have 2 issues with it. 1) the Canadian selection is MUCH weaker. 2) it would absolutely tear through my supremely shitty 60GB/month.

Bluray player is always a plus, but, you already have one and stand alone ones are cheap enough (like under 100 bucks) these days. And a DVD player you can probably find in your neighbors trash for free next Thursday.

The fact of the matter is, it's a gaming system. Bitching about no blu ray or dvd is ridiculous.

also I still buy dvds, I got all the indiana jones on dvd this week for 30$

See that's what actually has me concerned for next gen Xbox and Playstation. Nintendo is still making a gaming system but I have a feeling that $ony and M$ will make something that's more of an all purpose Entertainment System. We'll see.

Of course. Nintendo is interested in selling toys. Their machines let you play with their toys. That's how it's always been. MS and Sony have always been in the business of becoming a living room hub and entertainment center.

Like I'm still not sold on the new controller and I'm still not huge on the wii mote but I respect that they're staying true to their style. Also I like that they are catering to more people with the WiiU. Getting more multiplat titles that are on par with the other systems' versions is a god move.

I'm not sure what they'll do other than push graphics, maybe add kinect into the console itself. I'm not saying that if they do something cool and new people wont like it, but that it's gonna be hard to come up the the concepts.

So it will be hard to sell...because you have no imagination?

It'll be the same sell it always is. "Check out how awesome our graphics are, plus here's a bunch of other shit." And I wouldn't be surprised to see a bunch of controllers with screens in them.

I'd be really surprised if Sony and MS didn't go for the same sell as they always do. It's worked for them up to this point, so I don't see any reason to believe otherwise. If they do a touchscreen controller, it'll probably be post launch. Sony will probably try out some touch screen stuff by having vita/ps3 cross play. It won't be widely supported and they'll probably dismiss it when making their new console.

That'd be kind of cool since vita already has the dual analog and the like.

Yeah, but it's an expensive way to do it. I'm sure there will be some stand outs, but I think most developers won't spend the time to implement it when the majority of people won't have both of those systems. I guess it all depends on how well the Vita does.

Haven't they tried to do this whole portable console connecting to home console type deal before and no one cared? Remember when you could connect your GBA to the Gamecube? Yeah, everyone LOVED that.
