The game is running kind of shitty for me. I am well within the recommended specs for my machine. I don't know what it is. I started to turn all the extra crap off that's a burden on my CPU. I didn't think this game would be THAT resource intensive. Anyone else have problems? The game also takes ages to load into a map.

I was slightly sorta interested in trying this game, and then I read this post. Looks like I won't be trying it.

I'll let you know how the RAM works out. I was able to snag 4 GBs off of Newegg for $70 (after mail in rebate). I think if you have at least 4 GBs, you should be fine. I don't know why it said recommended as 2. I guess the game does run with 2 but you're just going to be waiting a lot for shit to load.

But I have 2 free trial passes to the game, I'm sure Steve has them too. If you do want to try it out, I can give you the codes and you can just download it for free.

got a free trial from my friend. it feels like every other RTS, which i like. the one gripe i have is the units. i think the learning curve on tryign to figure out what beats what is going to be a pain in the ass..mostly because they are all made up creatures. when it is human type units it was easier to figure out..my guess is i will probably get a handle on it right as my free pass runs out.

also about the free passes, do they time you from when you start? or does it just clock how much game time you have? cause it says 7 hours of play..but then i see an expire notice for 7 hours from when i installed.

I have no idea how the free trial works. As for what beats what, if you go to the sc2 website, they actually have a lot of pretty detailed information as to how a unit is used and you can beat it and with what race.

I bet that was for 32-bit OS. Also I'll take one of those trial codes, if you are trying to get rid of them.

Phil, Blizzard is pretty good about scaling their games to run on aging hardware. RC's issue was more that his PC didn't have enough RAM for Windows 7.

I'll let you have one of the free trial passes if you like next time I see you.

I think I'm about 1/2-2/3 ways through the campaign now. The campaign is actually surprising me a bit at how much fun it is. Plus the achievements give you incentive to play through it more than once. It stinks when you miss the achievement by a marginal amount though. Like the one map where you had to beat it in under 10 minutes and I was over by just 30 seconds. Had I known that was an achievement, I would have tried to do it a bit quicker. Now I check to see what achievements are for each level before I start. I want to unlock more portraits. Right now, I'm the stupid reporter woman just because that was the only unique option for me right now.

I finally got the game installed and my account created, via a trial pass from Russell Casse (Thanks again!). It must have taken like 8 hours to download the 6.99 GB installer. I'll start playing the campaign tomorrow after work.

If anyone else has a spare trial pass, I'd like to try it.

I gave mine away to my brother and my nephew, but a friend of mine picked it up too. I'm seeing if I can get you one from him. I know he's not gonna do anything with em.

edit: I got one for you. Just gotta wait for him to text me the code. I'll PM it to you later.

I have the same portrait right now I think too. BTW I almost had the 10 minute one too man. I was like 39 seconds over!

I have two free trials.

My RAM should be getting here today. I'm pretty excited to have the game load at a normal speed.

I can't believe you're almost at diamond league already Smith. I hear shared control is key in 3v3 and 4v4s. And zergling rush is pretty much unstoppable with shared control. I'm not a big fan of 3v3 or 4v4s because if just one of your teammate is shit, then you're pretty much screwed. I'm a pretty big fan of 2v2v2v2. It's like a team FFA. I also like FFAs but more so in WC3 because you get heros. It's not as great in SC.

Ugh, so the RAM somehow went from NJ to MD. What kind of delivery algorithm is that?! What are you doing DHL? I'm in Philly! Anyways. So after getting a significant amount of upgrades in the campaign, the achievements become sooo much easier. I'm wondering if I can go back and do some of the previous levels with the upgrades. Also, here's a tip for you guys that might not have gotten that far yet. Opt for the science vessel over the Raven. It's a million times better just because it automatically heals your mechs. Irradiate is pretty good too on large enemies. It also only costs 25 energy this time around as opposed to 100. It probably does less damage now though. I kind of wish they still had defense matrix. Never the less, science vessels are totally over powered. Abuse it to get those achievements.

I have that problem with NE.com sometimes too. I have NO IDEA why they do that. It makes zero sense and I get mad every time it happens.

I have played through about 4 campaign missions and I am absolutely loving this game so far. There really is just so much to do just with the campaign by itself. I am finding it a little hard to handle resource management, base building, and combat at the same time, but I think this game makes learning how definately worth it. Also, Russell you definately need those 4 GB of RAM to play this game. I'm running the game at 1440x900 with everything else on high, with no problems, but when I quit the game and check the task manager, I'm using just about all of my 4 GB of PC8500 RAM. I also only have an AMD 7750 with a 9600 GT, so that might the reason for it too.

I hate that I started playing the game with the trial code, because its gonna be a long month or so before I can purchase the full game.

That is why I try not to look at the tracking system while my stuff ships....it just makes me anxious.

I'm not sure if anyone else is playing or just gave up. I'm almost done with the campaign. I'm holding off on the final levels so that I can go back and get all the achievements for the previous levels. I still have a hand full of levels I have to redo. Once I'm done with the campaign, I'll start playing some real games.
