LOS ANGELES – A sequel to Nickelodeon's "Avatar: The Last Airbender" is in the works.
The channel said Wednesday the new animated TV series will premiere in 2011. It has the working title, "The Legend of Korra."
Nickelodeon says the series will build on the "mythology" of the original "The Last Airbender" series, which inspired this summer's live-action movie from filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan (SHAH-muh-lahn).
The "Legend of Korra" is from the creator-producers of "Avatar: The Last Airbender."
Nickelodeon executive Brown Johnson says the new series will focus on a teenage girl avatar named Korra. Brown describes her as hotheaded, independent and "ready to take on the world."
"Avatar: The Last Airbender" has ranked among the highest-rate series on the Nickelodeon and Nicktoons channels.

Sweeeeet.

Yes, but this is completely unrelated to the movie.

Some other tidbits of info I read

-70 years after the original series ended
-Korra already knows fire, water and earth
-She's in the process of learning air from Aang and Katara's son Tenzin
-She (and I guess Aang's son) venture to the Republic City, a steam punk inspired area that all different types of tribes reside at
-And the city is going to shit, series will be rooted in this city
-Aang died early because of the amount of time he spent frozen in the ice berg

Love the new direction. Sounds really cool.

HAHAHAAH I was just saying to Frank, I sorta defended it. I said it wasn't as awful as people made it out to be.

But yeah man, it's dog shit. It's his worst movie.

Yeah I think he pretty much killed the chance of the Airbender movies becoming a trilogy. It made pretty good money though, so I could see Nick moving forward with something else in the future, just not with him. Then again, he's the reason it was even made in the first place. He went to them.

it made money because people thought it would be good. after the first one, no one will go see the second. i dont even know what to say about a guy who changes the way the main characters name is pronounced..why even do that? it makes NO sense..he just needs to die quietly so i never see his stupid name and/or face again.

This officially started this weekend. I think they aired the first two eps on Saturday. The first two eps have been available for a while through other (legal) methods.

I actually just downloaded the first ep off PSN yesterday but I didn't get a chance to watch it. The first ep is free, but they charge like 3 bucks for the second one. I'll probably obtain that one through another means and then just start DVRing the show.

Anyway, did anyone catch it?

They showed eps 1-3 tonight. I liked it. I never finished the original series, so I don't know exactly what went down. I'll assume it was a happy ending based on the little bit of back-story they give you.

Started watching this last night (finally). I watched only the first two episodes out of the four.

I really like it a lot. Korra herself is awesome. The budget on the first episode must have been pretty insane because it looked amazing. There was a def step down from 1 to 2, but even 2 still looked great. I really like how different it is from the original show. It was cool seeing Ang's family and hearing about how awesome he and Zuko were/are. It's neat that we meet Ang's son who is like in his 30s or 40s, when the last time we saw Ang he was like 12. Just like that there is suddenly this entire history that was created after the events of the old show. The new sport they invented for it is cool too, and I said to Dem I wonder how long it'll take college nerds to think of a way to play it like idiots like they do Quidditch.

Anyway, it's good so far. Looking forward to watching more.
