Being mad at someone for being a braggart is one thing, but it's not the word that's at fault, it's the context. If you are hanging out in places where people all brag about how l33t and hardcore they are, maybe you should consider a change of scenery then.

so n-igger is a totally fine word as long as it's used in the proper context I guess?

Once a word comes into a common convention that is stupid or insulting it can't redeem itself.

And for a change of scenery I'd have to go to the moon, every city on this planet it filled with idiots.

Tell me what would be the proper context for using n-gger? Please. If you really think that hardcore has the same power, you are mucked in the head.

I'm not implying it as being 'just as negative' but I do put it in the category of 'words idiots use to describe people'.

One word has no meaning, the other has a very negative meaning. They are both dumb!

So is your comparison.

I'm not defending idiots. I'm saying that the word hardcore can be used properly, but is often not because of people that think it earns them nerd cred. We've already been over the meaning of hardcore, but you refuse to accept it. That's fine, but call it what it is.

I can't help it if all babies fear me.

At least they know what the fuck is up... unlike certain board members.

I have no problems with people wanting to take their gaming to the next level. It's just people wanting to be good at something, and in this case, a particular game or games. They just want to give other people the beat down and let them know that they are the champion. I find that most people that have a problem with this are the people on the receiving end of the beat down.

I'll take you on any day of the week Mr. Casse.

Your ass is mine on CS:S night tonight. If you have the balls.

I'll play tonight, if I remember. But I'm not that great at CS so any beating dealt to me would essentially be meaningless.

You don't know Baltar if you think I'm any good at it either.

I spend most of the night eating bullets that Sith, Shibby, Phantom Spiker and Solidefy serve to me.

I don't play games to be the best, I play them to have fun and to do better each time I play them. If you set your own goals and you put in the grind eventually the ass kicking part will come on its own.

Plus most of the guys on the board are nice and help give you pointers and things to help you out with. In the end we just all tease each other.

'Hardcore' comes from things like helping newbies instead of being a prick... or at least it bloody well should be.

Yeah, that has absolutely nothing to do with being 'hardcore'. It just means you are nice. Being hardcore doesn't mean your behavior towards others is pre-determined. You can still be a nice guy or a douchebag. It's all up to the individual.

I guess I'm so defensive about this because I know a few hardcore players that are really nice and are happy to help someone who doesn't have as much time to dedicate to playing games. If I ever met someone who would shit all over them just because they are more into games than the average person, I'd probably kick them in the teeth.

I'm just saying to me, if 'Hardcore' is an elitist thing, I put people who are nice AND good at their games above the people who are self-centered cocks and good at their games.

No shit!

That's totally not what I've been saying for the last 3 pages! OH WAIT, IT IS!

Your whole argument was that that person did not exist; If someone labels themselves as hardcore immediately means they are an elitist asshole. No exceptions.

Hardcore is not intrinsically elitist.

I'm saying it's overwhelmingly elitist, to the point where it overshadows everything else.

Like when someone says bitch, I don't think they are talking about female dogs.

You should be smart enough to know the difference.

the differences are a lot more subtle with 'Hardcore', and even my super brain cannot always determine the way someone is attempting to use it.

That was the best scene in Platoon.

That and the big battle at the end.
