The dude is a fucking genius, I just dug up some of my music I haven't listened to in a while and found Rockin' the Suburbs. Great album.

I'm a pre- "rocking the suburbs" ben folds fan. Don't know why, but I haven't listened to much past that album. Something was lost in the solo transition, mainly Robert Sledge on bass with his awesome fuzzbox, throwing in awesome little bass solos at random, and Darren Jesse on drums, tearing shit up in that jazz-rock style that I enjoy. The group made the band for me. Ben Folds to me is not the main draw, although he rounded the group out nicely. He still is hilarious and a great performer though.

That is very true, there is definitely something to be said about BFF instead of the Solo path. Personally I think they're both great to their respective albums and great things can be taken away from both.

Ben FOlds played with Julia Nunes. that makes him ok in my book

"For Those of Y'all who Wear Fanny Packs and Ponytails" is one of the best hidden tracks of all time.l

That song is great. :D The story is that there were some obnoxious record execs at the studio and the group wanted to just turn them off as much as possible. They played this song, probably the most ridiculous thing ever, and the record execs just left.

I'm also a big fan of "Satan is my master". :D

my favorite serious Ben Folds songs are:

Selfless, cold, and composed
one angry dwarf and 200 solemn faces
Evaporated
Don't change your plans
Steven's Last Night in town

actually, i like a lot of Ben Folds stuff, those were just the ones i thought of just now.

Wow, I didn't know there were Ben fans here. Ben Folds Five was the first band I really, really got into. I must have played their three main albums hundreds of times. I still like his solo stuff, but I wouldn't put Suburbs on the top of my list. Most of the songs are good, but there's too many things that sound artificial on it...the drum machine kind of bothers me. And Silverman was a step in the right direction but could get too melodramatic. I think Way to Normal is probably the best thing he's done since Whatever and Ever Amen, except in terms of audio quality. God, that album is compressed to shit. I picked up the new "Stems and Seeds" version and it sounds ten times better.

And yeah, the guy knows how to put on a good show. The last time I saw him was when he came to my school. There is a high percentage of deaf students at the college so there was always an interpreter at events. Ben kept singing "shit, shit, shit" so that the interpreter would do it in sign language. And then Ben and his group played air guitar/drums/piano so that "everyone in the room would have the same experience." The song ended with hundreds of audience members signing "shit" in unison. Great night.

I've started loving his music ever since He played at a festival last summer! I don't think there's ever been a more innovative pianist. Not to say he's written great works such as mozart or bach, he can just make the most sounds out of a regular piano than anyone i've heard. He's also a cool guy.
ben folds is cool.

I loves me some Ben, especially stuff with BF5. I'm not as much a fan of his solo stuff but his last album was pretty rad. He puts on an awesome live show, too.
