A new nine inch nails track by the name of "My Violent Heart" has surfaced online, after allegedly being found on a USB drive found in the bathroom of the venue of their recent show in Lisbon, POR. There have also been rumors of more drives containing the track being found in a similar way in venues the band have played as well, which pretty much confirms it as a rather brilliant marketing tactic. You can find a list of mirrors to download the track below. The song comes from the bands new album "Year Zero", which will see an April 16th release date. The group also have their new live DVD effort "nine inch nails Live: Beside You In Time" due for release on DVD, HD-DVD and Blu-Ray on February 27th.

this one seems to work

As Trent said when playing the new material live in Portugal for the very first time "this is from the new album, which will be available for real in a few months..... which means you can probably download it all a couple weeks from now."
He doesn't like having his work leaked any more than anyone else but he also realizes the realities of the contemporary music market and isn't fighting it. That's why when these two songs leaked he put them up on the band's myspace page for people to listen to them for free. Survivalism is the first official single from the album.

Of course, Reznor's the greatest thing to happen to music since Beethoven so the album should be pretty good. I'm looking forward to seeing the band play again in Japan this May. Hands down the best live band of our generation.

They actually made the ENTIRE [With_Teeth] album available to listen to at a couple different websites before the album was ever released, and kept it up for quite a while after it was released. Trent's rationale being: he knew it had leaked and people online were downloading it left and right. He thought they should at least have a version with decent audio.

There are four songs now available on the band's myspace page. I really dig the last two.

Cool concept for a video. It's playing on the whole big brother paranoia thing... and that's why the buttsex bit is in there... i.e. it's really none of the Bush administration's or anyone else's g-dang business what is going on in people's bedrooms, or anywhere else in their personal lives for that matter.

and this is the first time since Broken (the second NIN album ever, and just an LP at that) that NIN has put out anything this fast. I doubt it's going to be a new pattern... but maybe.... since Trent's finally sober for the first time in his career.

You can listen to the whole album there. Just like they did with With_Teeth. You can also download the super high quality multitrack file of Survivalism for Garageband so you can easily deconstruct and remix the whole thing, just like they did with The Hand That Feeds and Only.

I'm only on track 4 so far, but, if the CD was anything less than awesome it would be the first time...

Alright, I've listened to the whole album a few times now.... and I must say... mixed feelings. A few of the tracks are really good. I think the song "In This Twilight" which I have playing on my myspace page right now may be my favorite track at this point, though I really need to give the whole thing a few focused listens- free from distraction. Then I'll probably change my mind. I still like the first single Survivalism a lot, and Trent does some other interesting things with the music on other tracks.

That said, there are several tracks here I just don't care for at all. The album is by FAR the preachiest most political thing he has ever done. Many were afraid that this is how "With Teeth" was going to be, and that one turned out okay with the only really obviously political song being "The Hand That Feeds".... and even that one didn't hit you over the head with its message the way most Rage Against the Machine songs do... or the way, say, "Capital G" does on this album. (one of the worst tracks, IMO) Trent.... you are not Rage.... they do their thing and that's fine but you are something else... this is not what you are good at... you once said in an interview that you didn't get into that preachy BS that other bands do because you felt like the only thing you could speak about with any kind of authority was your own personal life experience... such humility... such honesty... where did that go?

I think this thing could have benefitted from another couple years of development like most of his other albums. As it stands, I think there may be several tracks that eventually I will just start skipping over. This is unprecedented for me... (sort of, read on below) as I am a tried and true fan of pretty much everything Reznor has ever done, and to date the only tracks I seem to skip over on any of his major albums with any regularity are "Physical" from Broken and "With Teeth" from With Teeth. To have more than one on the same album would be a new record.

There's a chance maybe I just haven't let the new stuff grow on me enough yet. The first time I heard The Downward Spiral I didn't much care for it, and the first time I heard Broken I hated it, and now I think they're both among the best albums put out by any artist ever. I just had to listen several more times. and that's part of the beauty of Reznor's work. It's not as easily digestible as Justin Timberlake... it doesn't reveal itself to you completely right from the first listen... so it has a longer shelf life and is a more rewarding listening experience for the person who puts in the time to really get acquainted with the message and overall musical architecture of each album.

Anyway... those are my thoughts right now. Hope everyone else who listens finds something to like. Still looking forward to seeing Trent in concert next month. He may be over the hill now but he's still hands down and without question the best live performer of his generation. If they do a new US tour anyone who can go would do themselves a favor to attend a show.

awful..just awful..went from one of his best albums"with teeth", my personal favorite because of the lack of sythesizer, to this heaping pile of garbage...its sounds like something I could have done with garageband a synthesizer and a drum machine...very disapponting. however it will get them to tour again since they will want to promote the album, so i approve.

pretty interesting. when corporations have pretty much bottlenecked the means to advertise, this is a ballsy move indeed to market your goods. i bought the CD today but ahvent listened to it yet. ill probably toss it on tomorrow at work.

so i've listened to it twice. i think right off the bat its possibly a weaker album than with teeth, but then again its a completely different experience. i dont think its supposed to be as "preachy" as ryan points out. from what i read online and from how its being marketed as a concept piece i think its telling a story of a bleak militaristic future something along the lines of what is seen in children of men. theres some really good tracks on here. i happen to like "capital G", "my violent heart" "in this twilight", and "the great destroyer". that one is one of the whackiest tracks on here and i do believe things are being destroyed when im listening to it.

another cool packaging detail is that the CD itsself is black. after playing it, and it gets hot from playing in the drive, it turns white. its pretty cool pulling out a different CD than the one you put in at the start.

i think furhter listening will reveal more about the CD. NIN is deffinately one of those bands whose music grows better with age and repeated listenings. i think year zero is a pretty damned good album.
