the dude who did my basement said the original roof problem with the shingles blowing off would be $150 to fix. And to replace my water damaged cabinet in the kitchen would be $300 but it would be hard to match it exactly. Insurance Company gave me $4000 to get that stuff done. But they hold $700 to make sure I do the work and it costs that much. So they sent me a check for $3300. Maybe I can get him to redo all the cabinets instead.

He also said I had two options for the porch. Find out who manufactures that type of roof or a company that does Sun Rooms specifically and get them to give a quote. Or his preference, tear down the entire room and build it better with a real roof and real walls (right now it has floor to ceiling windows as walls and a weird shit roof because those types of walls can't support a real roof. That would be awesome if we got enough money for that. I always wanted that room to be more a part of the house hooked up to heat and AC and all that jazz. The only thing I would want to keep is the big windows to see out the park behind my house. I dont care about the windows on the side walls.

i suppose this is minor gripe, but whatever. im in the process of getting my floors refinished. wheni moved in there was this gross carpet that i put up with for 2 years. i have pulled most of it up now, and now im trying to fix the ample squeeks in the floor. i found a kit online that screws in and then snaps off 1/4 in under the surface. they actually work pretty good, however, trying to find the actual spot is a bit rough. i think its also tough because the subfloor in my building is so old the screw isnt gripping and not allowing the screw to snap off properly.

they work, but its a semi pain in the ass. im putting all these holes in my floor that i hope can be filled cleanly and then when the floors are sanded and refinished they wont show.

Roof shingles were fixed yesterday along with pipe boots on 2 roof pipes that might have been causing some leakage that damaged the cabinet in our kitchen.

Basement Carpet Reinstallation tomorrow!!
FINALLY! After 3 months, the basement will be back to 100%.

And the Insurance Company will be getting back to us later this week to let us know the estimate of the porch damages. Hopefully they give us a shit ton because I want to redo that room as soon as possible.

Hopefully the sump pump fixes that problem, that would suck if it happened again.

It hasn't happened in the 3 months since the disaster so we only really need the pump for really bad storms. Every single time it has rained in those 3 months I have gone down there and examined, we got some water in the laundry room before installing that big ass PVC pipe thing in the driveway but other than that nothing. The only other thing we could have done is ripped down all the brand new walls and installed a french drain so all water coming in at the foundation would be caught and sent to the pump.

The problem might actually be solved when we get the porch redone though. The water is getting under the porch because of how shitty the foundation of that thing is. I would have to dump tons of concrete into the openings between the porch and driveway to seal it up. But when its knocked down and rebuilt it should solve that problem and then i can get rid of that pipe thing in the driveway because its so ugly.

Kitchen Faucet broke and now water just shoots everywhere. Homeowner said he'd fix it while we were gone out of the country. Came back home, still not fixed. They don't want me to touch it for some reason (probably because they'd have to reimburse me and they don't want me getting a decent faucet). Shit is getting nasty, and now the countertop is coming apart.

Rained a lot while we were gone too, and the drain pipes got clogged on the roof, and the standing water started to seep in to the ceiling...

Also found a shit ton of mold under the flooring again, and it's been creeping up the wall.

Korean houses suck ass. Can't wait to leave that dump in 5 months.

Basement is back JACK! Moved everything back to the TV Room except the couch because the wife is too weak.

The 42" TV back in my living room looks tiny now since I've had the 58" in there for 3 months.

Figured I would move this here instead of the Weather whore daddy.
If you didn't read in the other thread, Hurricane Irene got my basement a bit wet. Not anything horrendous but a spare bedroom that we rarely use and our unfinished storage room flooded. Well we had a friend come give us some options.

We might be getting a French drain just on that side of the house which would cut down cost and labor.
He said he would do it for $150 a day, which seems like a great price. I don't think it would be too much on the material side. Plus I have a Home Depot 12 months no interest deal for the material. He would have to cut half the sheet rock of 2 walls and move our oil tank, which sucks. Or we could get another pump in our storage room and then just get tiles in the spare room and deal with any water that might come in. Try to stop it from the outside a bit more.

Just gotta figure it all out.

this deserves a fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck.

So the ground is still saturated with water from the hurricane and now anytime it rains, my basement is going to flood.
I was vacuuming up water on tuesday night for a few hours. it was fine by the time i went to bed and then fine in the morning. so as long as i keep an eye on it then theres no damage done. so yesterday we were fine because we didnt get any rain. well i guess last night it stormed. i woke up to my storage room filled with water and a wet spot forming in the bedroom again (not a huge deal because there's no carpet down anymore). I did what i could but then had to go to work. my wife got up and vacuumed it all up and threw some towels down and some fans running on it. hopefully that holds it off for a while. her uncle is coming to take a look and give us some options since he does this kind stuff for a living. the other dude wouldn't be able to do it until the end of october and i can't wait that long.

her uncle wants to rip out all the walls and put DRYLOCK on them and also install a drain on that side of the house going to a pump. this is getting ridiculous. and i'm sure its going to get expensive.

i think i'm gonna leave work early and just keep an eye on it all afternoon.

Is your foundation affected by all of this? Gotta watch out for mold.

I dont know. when they cut the wall away to make the drain, they'll check for mold.

Phil is updating with his house issues in Broken AC/Heater so I figured I would go here.

We had 4 feet of sheetrock cut out of our spare bedroom that flooded. Apparently water has been getting in for a while, just not that bad until recently. Because we had mold back there and you could tell water was in there more than once. Insulation was ruined, had to rip it out. Sheetrock was trash. Also found out its getting under our bar room floor pretty bad from another location so we have to rip out the floor too (maybe not all of it though). So he's going to have to cut the walls in that room and probably trash the insulation there too. Thats todays job.

Worst news is the plan to make a drain behind the wall that leads to a pump will not work. We have these pillars every 4 feet that are too close to the wall and make it impossible to make a working drain. Our unfinished storage room can still get a pump and a floor drain but the bedroom and bar room will need something else. Now he starts getting into construction type talk and I cant remember the details but this is the basic jist of it. He's getting this stuff and applying it along the bottom of the wall on the floor that expands and hardens when its wet to seal off the area. Also going to mortar the walls to seal them up better and then put several coats of Drylock on there (that shit is expensive too). The dude that finished our basement should have done this 3 years ago even though we weren't getting any water at that time. So our new guy blames him for going the cheap way. Anyway, its bad news but really money wise, just maybe not as 100% effective as the drain method.

I plan on leaving the sheetrock off and waiting for a storm to see what happens. I don't really care what it looks like down there right now as long as this gets done right.

Thats awful man. I couldn't imagine having to rip apart all that work because of the flooding. I would be losing my mind. I can't even imagine how much it cost for this too. Are you able to take a loan out for it or anything?

its not too bad actually. mandy's uncle is doing the work so he's giving us a good deal.
It was going to be 1200-1500 but now it might be a tad bit more but we'll see.
