so i have been battling with our first 10.7 edit station for 2 weeks. it was taking about 4 minutes to get to the log in screen, so on the advice of the apple discussion boards, i used the 10.7.4 combo updater. after that, it took 8-15 minutes to get to the log in screen. so i do the normal shit, run disk repair and permissions repair..this is where the fun shit happens. after the permissions repair. my local admin account no longer has rights to any of its home folders or desktop. if i try to move anything to those locations while logged in as admin, it makes me authenticate, using the creds of the account i am actually using, then it will move the data. but once it is there, the account has no rights to those folders, so it can't see anything. fukin madness. am now reformatting and starting from scratch. yay.

what a pile of shit.

Why would you glue in the battery? The battery thing still drives me nuts. On my laptop I don't have to open anything or take any pieces off to take my battery out. Just disengage 2 locks and it comes off and I can just pop in a new one.

Also from the section where they tried to remove the battery it sounds like it's just fucking impossible to take that out without damaging the trackpad? Basically if you want a new battery you need a new laptop from the sound of that.

Oh and what's up with the RAM being soldered to the logicboard (motherboard)? That seems like a really bad idea, no?

They are building for lowest common denominator. 90% of computer users, and human beings, have no desire to fix or upgrade anything themselves. The worst part about all of this is Apple is actively playing to the fact humanity is becoming lazier and dumber by the minute. They are helping to usher in a new age of people who can't learn or do shit for themselves.

What the fuck is a genius going to do if something goes wrong with your shit? De-soder the RAM? Right. Also the people who run that site clearly know what they are doing when they take apart a computer and even they were to nervous to actually take the battery out.

I never understood why studios use macs to edit and animate things, they can't run after effects for shit.

you are completely incorrect about that. however windows has come a long way and now there are actually PC options that work better.

i work on both platforms for years. at home i run win7, and have zero problems running AE, or any adobe software. of course, adobe software is shitty no matter what you are running it on.

the fact that if your battery on these new laptops die, and you can't do anything about it other than bring it in to a "Genius" only to have them just hand you another (refurbished) laptop is absurd. not to mention that these batteries are rated for 300 charges? that doesn't sound like a lot to me.

What I meant to say is that usually they can't render back in real time, so when i'm editing my shitty mac makes me render the whole thing before i can see how it looks. With my PC I can just run that shit back in real time.

ahh well that depends on hardware.

i feel the need to make fun of the "deep facebook intergration" in OS6. quoting this article: http://mashable.com/2012/06/11/apple-facebook/

"You’ll be able to post locations to Facebook directly from the maps app and post photos to Facebook directly from the photos app."

You can do this on android already. You can share any photo in your gallery with any app capable of sending data including FB. Same goes with Maps.

"And when friends share their email addresses and phone numbers with you on Facebook, they’ll automatically appear in your iPhone’s contact book."

Once apun a time you used to be able to sync all facebook contacts to your phone. That's been removed. I don't know how that happened. I didn't care though because I didnt use it.

"Other Apple apps getting the Facebook treatment include iTunes, game center and Siri — which now allows you dictate Facebook posts.'

You can do this in Vlingo and several other personal assistant apps.

"Both Twitter and Facebook notifications will now be included in the notification center, the pull-down tab on the top of the screen."

Same with this shit. I actually turn it off because it annoys me. Speaking of which I need to go and turn it off on my LinkdIn app. The entire notification system is lifted form Android.

Anywho, big whoop. iOS6 has Facebook integration. Welcome to nothing.

So I just went to the store to look at the retina display. I can't really tell the difference. I guess it looks better? I don't know.
