rented a lake house this weekend. made the mistake of only bringing a zip up travel crate for my dog. she has always had some anxiety issues, but they haven't really come out in quite a while so I figured she had gotten older and they weren't really a problem anymore. well that was not the case. i locked her in our bedroom while we went out for about an hour or so and when we came back she had opened the zipper and shredded the bottom of the molding at the base of the bedroom door. fukin bitch.

Dog just got diagnosed with pancreantitus, well it's either that or cancer. the former is pretty manageable.

But christ, having to drive around finding an emergency vet at 3am, then having to stay there until 4pm was shit.

My parents took me out to dinner for my birthday last night and next to the restaurant was a pet store.
My mom and sister are obsessed with dogs ever since I got mine, so they had to go in and see the puppies.
They had this dog mixture I never heard of before. They were calling him a Beabull. Half Beagle, Half English Bulldog.
Pretty crazy looking. Body of a beagle but had the wrinkles of a bulldog. And no breathing issues because the nose isn't smushed in. I thought it was a cool dog.
They get up to 40 pounds. And I thought it was funny thinking of a Beagle and Bulldog mating. haha

My sister was acting like a child trying to get my Mom to buy it.
Mandy wasn't much better. She kept saying Hogan needed a friend. I had to be the sensible one.
Plus that dog was $1050. The most expensive one in there.

Man, that's ridiculous for a mutt. At least get a pure bread if you're going to shell out that much. You can just pick up a mutt from the pound.

Well they're not really considered mutts. Sure, they're not ONE breed so technically I guess thats a mutt.
But they're purposely bred that way because people want them. Breeders are doing it a lot now.

Pretty much every dog at this store was some kind of popular mix of two dogs. They were ranging from 500-1000.

He's specially bred though, so thats why he has the high price. He's like a new breed pretty much.

Ohh, I see. Man, dog breading might be a nice profession.

Hahaha, a lot of people do it on the side in secret I think. I know a woman at work that breeds her poor dogs all the time. She however is no master breeder and it's just a scummy thing she's doing. I'm sure there are right and wrong ways to do it, she's likely in the wrong.

Not a huge PETA nut or anything but i never liked dog breeding. There is enough dogs out there at kennels that people can get.

Yeah, I agree. I did some work on an addition at the Burlington County Animal Shelter a few years ago, it was pretty crazy how many dogs that get put down weekly because they're so over crowded.

Benson has been completely out of control lately. He's been getting so mad at us when we leave the house that he's shitting and pissing everywhere. This has been going on at least two or three times a week over the last two months.

This morning we dropped the girls off at the babysitters. We were gone for MAYBE 10 minutes. I come home and he looked guilty but I was petting him and calling him a good boy. I then go up the steps to get to the bathroom only to be stopped by an entire piss load on one of the stairs. I yell at him and throw him outside. I go into my bedroom to get some paper towels I left in there and then I'm slapped with a giant shit he took in there. This of course made me late for work.

The stairs and hallway have been destroyed lately. I generally close all the doors in our second floor because of his behavior lately, but I didn't think he'd act so quick. I think I'm going to try and wet vac the carpet this weekend. Never did that before though.

He also tries to escape when we leave the house now and he cries like a bitch when we say no and close the door. He's still eating the shit out of our blinds too. It looks like someone broke into our house.

Two Sundays ago he actually did manage to escape when Dem opened the door. Thankfully when I chased him he actually just walked right to my parents house so I was able to trap him in their yard while I went home to get his leash.

Seriously, he's driving me insane lately.

That's his guilty look when the ears are backwards. When I see that, I know he did bad somewhere.

You might have to get a gate and just gate him in the kitchen when you leave. At least then you'll have a clean carpet and not destroyed blinds.
Then make him hang out with his piss and shit if he does it in there. He'll re-learn eventually.

Yeah I was actually thinking the same thing. You're right in that it seems like he needs to re-learn it. I do have a gate already that I used for him (and now the girls) so that's no problem. Do you still keep Hogan in the kitchen?

I bought new blinds this weekend that I'm going to put up tonight, so I have to protect them at whatever the cost.

Yeah, he gets the kitchen and that whole back room since we got that redone. I don't block him off because I think he's going to destroy stuff. He's actually never chewed anything up. He doesn't even play with his toys by himself when we're gone. I'd just rather he didnt get hair all over the couch in the living room because I know he would prefer to lay out there all day. We figured out which chair he likes in the back room and put a big blanket on it. He only lays there or in front of the sliding glass door looking into the backyard so there's isnt much of a shedding mess. We plan on just doing that with him forever.

That's a good plan. Benson loves being on our couch. It's a real pain to de-fur the couch, I hate doing it. We generally try to put sheets over the couches these days because of him and the girls (like when they used to throw up all the time, which never happens anymore), but there is still hair everywhere.

I always try to tell myself to get into the habit of brushing him outside every day but I always forget.

Well John I took your advice. Benson is currently locked in the kitchen.

I woke up this morning and thought about it, and I thought "No I can't do that to him, it's been years." We go drop off the kids, and because I just put new blinds up last night I locked him out of the front room. Well I guess he didn't appreciate that because when I came home he shit on the couch and was sitting next to it like "take that" (thank god I had a sheet down on it). I yelled at him pretty bad for it. I assume there had to be pee somewhere, so I go look and he peed in my bed right where I sleep. It was a deliberate attack. We have a water proof sheet we lay just in case something like this happens. I took everything off the bed and went down and yelled at him again. I even gave him a whack. I know people say you shouldn't, but fuck man, he needed a good one and that's what he got.

When I fed him and locked him in the kitchen he didn't know what to do with himself. Between that and the thunder storm happening he was losing his marbles. I felt kind of bad, but as Chris Klein would say, that had to be done. And I guess it'll keep being done for the next few weeks.

I don't believe in the 'no smacking' rule.
A dog is smart enough to know if you give him a smack and shove his face right in the thing that he's getting smacked for, thats the thing he shouldnt do.

At least if he shits and pisses today, its not on a carpet, couch or bed.
