Shyamalan isn't dead yet. In fact he's got one of the biggest movie stars out there attached to his latest project.
For those who might be in the dark about what After Earth is all about, it’s about a family who crash lands on Earth 1000 years after humans have left the planet. The story centers on what happens when a heroic father (Will Smith) is captured, forcing his underachieving son (Jaden Smith) to save him. It also reportedly stars Zoe Kravitz and Sophie Okonedo to round out the futuristic family.

First pic from the set.

Written by neogaf poster, Gary Whitta! That would be the only thing I'd be interested in if his first movie didn't stink.

Sounds like an interesting premise. Though this thread title should have been "After Earf".

I think I'm going to agree with you. My M Night faith has been destroyed. I'm now in the "It'll be terrible camp."

I'm still "wait for the trailer" guy. Then after seeing it I become "hey this could be good" guy.
Then I go to see it in theaters and become "disappointed again" guy.

his trailers are great. its the entire movie that sucks. trailers tell you nothing. M Night is a fraud and an egomaniac. Anyone that can take awesome content like avatar and turn it into a total pile of shit is not worth a shit. if he cant get a decent performance out of zooey deschanel and dev patel, he sucks as a director.. and as a writer, he was just a flash in the pan. the guy just sucks. im sorry, but he sucks. im just glad the world finally caught on.

i think what irks me the most out of this whole thing, even more so than M night directing it, is that it stars will smith as a dad and his son as...his son. if that isn't fucking contrived horseshit i don't know what is.

You should go watch The Pursuit of Happiness.

Man I'm so sick of Will Smith trying to give his son a career. Fucking always playing his son and Smith remaking the Karate Kid just for him and shit.

Pursuit of Happiness was no joke. I will give it to both of them for that. Only reason I am not complaining about that part.

I was also a fan of that movie. I recommend it to those that haven't seen it.

Yeah it is good and showed that Will Smith could be a serious dramatic actor worthy of awards given the right project.
He tried again in the movie Seven Pounds but it was not very good.

He was pretty serious in parts of I am Legend too. I mean overall it wasn't like some huge drama, but he was really good in it.
