I don't even care if in a few years the WiiU is underpowered. Imagine an HD Okami game where you could play it like the DS version. I've wanted some serious DS-Wii connectivity for a while, and this thing delivers that type of experience and more.
I'm already sold.
Yeah I mean, this concept is a long time coming. Nintendo never forgets. They tried motion control in the old days and finally got it to a point where it did what it needed to do. Same with 3D on the 3DS. Or gosh, even the dual screens from the 80s on Game & Watch. This is the same thing. People think one of Nintendo's worst conferences of all time was actually the first one Reggie was at (I think). That was the one where their big game was Pacman VS using the GBA's on the Gamecube. Fast forward like 10 years and we're finally at that idea being fully conceived. This is "Connectivity" finally being done right. There's no GBA/DS crutch for the console to lean on leading to half baked experiences like Final Fantasty Crystal Chronicles on Wii. This is all out of the box and ready to go. They probably have more than 10 years worth of ideas they're finally going to realize. It's exciting. Anyone that doesn't think so must be playing games for completely different reasons than I play them.
And Nick, the next gen was sure to start. If history truly repeated itself, last Christmas you'd have been buying Xbox 720 and PS4. Sony and MS were forced to extend this generation because the HD era hurt the industry more than people probably think. Sony and MS lost so much money to sell those HD consoles. Think about how many companies went out of business because of HD bombs. And at what cost? In the end, what did it really do? If none of these companies are making bucks (with a few exceptions) then its all for nothing.
Nintendo usually isn't the one to lead the next gen, but this time they were in the position to do so. Wii had a healthy life despite what anyone thinks, and the time is now for the next console. They're still drumming to their own beat. MS and Sony HAD to stay in. Especially Sony. You can't be mad at Nintendo for doing what they need to do for their business.
The only thing I do like about NIntendo right now is that their Wii support right now is garbage. All they have for the end of the year is Zelda. I still like playing my Wii, and so do plenty of other people. The fact that they have games like Last Story, Xenoblade, and that Tower of whatever one just sitting there over in Japan irks me. Bring that shit here. At the end of the Gamecube life cycle when they had shit they brought over all sorts of strange odds and ends to fill in the gaps like Chibi Robo, Odama, Geist and Baten Kaitos 1 and 2. I wish they'd do the same for Wii right now.
