They have Halo. Do they really need anything else?

Sucks for gamers, but I think MS will be ok this holiday.

Dead Rising: Case Zero was nothing if not an experiment in cheap, pre-release DLC. The prologue gave a taste of Dead Rising 2 without repeating content from the full game, and it was priced to move. GamerBytes reports that it paid off in a big way, to the tune of over 300,000 sold in the first week. The report speculates that Capcom could have made over a million in revenue from the downloadable title in its first seven days.
Though Case Zero gives a sampling of Dead Rising 2, it smartly differentiated itself by consisting of entirely separate content, including story beats not found in the main game. Capcom also priced it at a mere $5, which is unheard of for most Xbox Live Arcade games, especially after Microsoft's yearly Summer of Arcade promotion laid down $15 as the new standard. A $5 price point made the investment small enough for consumers to bite on, and a generally positive reception means most gamers probably weren't disappointed.

EA is attempting a similar tactic with Dead Space Ignition, the downloadable prequel to Dead Space 2. But we don't know the price of Ignition, and the gameplay is significantly different from the game proper. With the success of Case Zero, Capcom may have unintentionally set the pre-game DLC price and quality standard in the minds of gamers.

I'll admit that I'm curious to check it out for that price. I'm glad that Capcom went low with the price on this. In my eyes that set the bar really high when they release Bionic Commando for 10 dollars back in the day. It's weird because then Castle Crashers wasn't much longer after BC and at that point it seems like 15 became pretty much the standard. I didn't know MS made 15 dollars the standard on their Summer line up. It's good to see Capcom putting themselves in a value position again with this. Hopefully they don't drop the ball on BCR2 and make it 15.

Yeah 5 dollars is a fantastic price...especially when you look at the price Activision is charging for mappacks.

I mean, is it a surprise? I said to Steve on IM yesterday "I'm sure the game has a 95 on metacritic." I checked and it was a 92... I was close to being right.

People were freaking out on Giantbomb after it received the dreaded 4 out of 5 stars, even though the review itself was very positive. Of course most of them probably didn't even read the damn thing.

I rarely read articles on giant bomb, but I can't see them giving Halo 5 stars anyways. I don't think its a 5 star game, for the record.

I think my favorite part is all the changes they made to the multiplayer back end. The way the level is voted on, how you can kind of weed out super annoying people, how you can see everyone on your friend's list who is online playing Halo at all times. The story is still trash, and there's some ridiculous choppiness during some of the cutscenes, but it still plays really well. The new powers add a lot of variety and strategy to the game, especially in MP.

I wish I didn't start the game on Heroic, but it's still been fun. All the multiplayer set up is pretty cool, but I still hate Halo MP. And the game in campaign kinda runs like shit. There's some serious ghosting and framerate hiccup problems.

Are you struggling on Heroic too? It's pretty hard on single player, but playing with friends it's a whole lot easier.

The elites are rough until you get their shields down. I'm usually searching the grunt corpses for those energy pistols. They knock out shields pretty much instantly.

Kinect sounds like a real disaster. Just saw this post over on GAF. Ridiculousness in bold.

Quote:
Did you know two people playing Kinect need to stand 8 feet from the camera? Did you know Kinect needs to be placed 2-6 feet high to work? Did you know that you don’t need a Kinect power pack if you own a 360 Slim?

You do now.

VG247 has received photographs of the entire Kinect manual, revealing final, consumer-facing information on setting up and using the motion camera.

The required play distances are confirmed in the document: “The sensor can see you when you are approximately 6 feet (2 meters) from the sensor. For two people, you should play approximately 8 feet (2.5 meters) from the sensor.”

The manual also provides height information for placing: “For the best play space and sensor performance, place your sensor between 2 and 6 feet (0.6 and 2 meters) high, the closer to the low or high limit the better.”

You’re also warned that you should “not put the sensor on your console.”

The peripheral’s manual confirms that an external power pack needs to be used unless you own a Slim.

“For Xbox 360 S consoles, power is supplied by the console. For original Xbox 360 consoles, you’ll need to connect the sensor to a standard wall outlet.”

If you own a Slim, the camera’s simply plugged into the AUX input.

Kinect comes with a software disc which needs to be installed for it to work. We’re going to assume this is included in the upcoming 360 dashboard update.

“Troubleshooting”

There’s a troubleshooting section at the back of the manual, which tells you how to fix stuff if it all goes wrong.

If the camera can’t see you, you should “turn on lights to brighten the play space,” “try wearing different colored clothing that contrasts with the background of your play space,” and “prevent lights, including sunlight, from shining directly on the sensor.”

You’re also warned to make sure the system is “well-ventilated.”

This thing is going to be a disaster.
