Shamoozal.com - Smorgas Board

Sure you guys have all heard about this thing by now. It's called Ouya and it's a new Android based console that is supposed to retail for 99 bucks in March of next year. There was a Kickstarter for it and so far it's made over 5 million bucks, probably most of which came from indie developers.

So anyway, what do you guys think of this thing? I initially thought it was a cool idea when pitched as a low cost machine, but when you really look at it, it's pretty much horse crap. The Android games that exist now are built for touch screens where as the focus here is on a controller. I could see it becoming a cool/low cost emulator box, but I don't see how that is helping anyone.

Thoughts?

emulators would be cool, but licensing will kill it for any casual user.
Otherwise, I'm with you, most games would be boring with a controller. Thats not to say devs couldn't start creating games designed for a controller, but if they did that I'm guessing they'd be cutting out a massive market share on the touch screen side.

Don't they specifically say "Hey hack this!" That's a really good way to scare away any bigger budget projects.

yeah this thing is a tough sell. i just dont see it taking off bcause like phil says a majority of the games in the android market are built around a touch screen which may or may not translate well to the touchpad to TV. maybe they would though.
