So Club Nintendo has finally hit North America. This is the program Japan has had for a few years (and Europe has had it for a few months) that gives people a chance to "purchase" exclusive Nintendo goods through means of registering products. Most of the stuff is throw away, but once in a while there is some cool stuff. For example, the coolest goodie you can get in the North America CN is a Game and Watch Collection for DS which isn't available in stores. In Japan, another cool item was a Super Famicom controller for Wii. So there is some cool incentive to take part in it.

Anyway you go to Nintendo to sign up. You need to earn coins by registering games by using the little code that comes with Nintendo published items. People that already have a My Nintendo account can sort of transfer their information... but it blows.

I was good and registered all my Nintendo products for a long time, Twilight Princess being the last thing I registered. I did it because once in a while they'd throw you a cool bone (like the Gamecube Zelda collection) but I stopped because I don't care too much. When I switched my My Nintendo account into a Club Nintendo account I was thinking all my registered stuff would automatically turn into coins. Well, not so. I need to re-register everything to make it count. This blows. I think I threw out half my stupid registration codes not to mention the fact I don't feel like sitting there registering them all over again. Also, it looks like my VC/WiiWare purchases will never count as coins. What a pain in the neck.

But I really want the Game and Watch collection... so I might do it.

This website is so slow, but I should have enough Wii games to register alone to get me that Game and Watch Collection. Wii Fit gave me 80 coins. I keep everything that comes in the boxes for these games so I have a ton to register.

I tried signing up, but after I entered in my nintendo code from Mario Srtikers Charged 7 different times and it still was telling me Im doing it wrong, I gave up.

I added Mario Galaxy, which I had already on My Nintendo and it said the Pin was already registered and wouldn't give me coins. Gay. And how the hell do you register the ones you have on your Wii? What a stupid system.

Pretty sure the site is having all sorts of technical issues right now, so that could be it. But yeah, thats lame if they dont let you reregister Mario Galaxy. They really should have made the My Nintendo transition seamless right down to starting out with the coins you technically already earned.

Not sure how you go about reregistering Wii downloads that have already been registered. I think I might just email them and demand them to give me all the coins for the shit I already registered.

I found my whole list of games actually transferred over, maybe they'll actually give you the points for them.

It looks like to get the coins for games you already registered that you need to take these surveys. I did all the surveys for the games that appeared in my list.

When you think about it, it's 800 dollars to get Game and Watch. Because Wii games are worth 50 coins and DS games are worth 30, thats pretty close to their dollar amount. So yeah, it's 800 bucks to get that. Ridiculous. Factor in taxes and all that shit and its probably much closer to 1000. There are other ways to earn coins by doing different surveys, but still.

I can't belive I only walked away with 430 coins, what a joke. I have a Wii and bought 3 DS's over the past 3 years, that alone should give me plenty of these crummy coins.

Yeah, I'll admit it, I didn't read any of it. I just gathered that you get coins somehow from registering your Nintendo stuff from various posts I glanced at.
