I'm surprised Randy loved it so much. I'm also surprised that I got farther than him and Steve. I thought you guys would have all beaten it.

I had the exact same feeling as Phil about Abobo. The controls were off. They did not feel right. I can't believe Randy liked the swimming!

I just felt like flash on Newgrounds. Not an NES game.

good show as usual guys.

so i had some time to kill today while waiting for notes, so i fired up bastion demo off of steam. i really liked the art and design. the narrator was ok, but that could MAYBE get tiring after playing for a few hours? not sure. now i also played this on a PC with a keyboard and it was a bit tough, because i felt like i was pushing all kinds of buttons. i really don't think the combat system is very refined. its basically a button masher, it reminded me a bit of Gauntlet, but its hard to play on a keyboard. maybe a controller owuld make a big differnce? the other problem i had was that i THINK the mouse plays a large part of where you aim with your hammer, but i would forget about the mouse and my cursor would float off to god know's where. however, maybe my biggest gripe with it was the isometric view. i felt like i was pressing on multiple keys to get him to walk "straight" a lot if you follow my meaning here. i'm not sure if re-aligning the buttons to make him walk on a diagonal by default would've helped or not.

the strong points for me was the art. really nicely done stuff.

I thought it did get old, especially the narration, but it's still a neat game.

Abobo wasn't that janky dudes. Come on. Could it be that using a keyboard contributed to the little jank that it actually has?

I wasn't using a keyboard. And even with a keyboard, I don't think it would still feel right. I played plenty of NES emulator games with a keyboard and they all felt the same. Abobo just felt wrong.

I guess that's too wishy washy for me. I mean, I noticed some weirdness in a few levels, specifically the jumping in contra and the dodging in the punch out parts, but it didn't rip me out of the experience.

Phil was right on about Urban Champion, that game sucks, but that was pretty much a joke area anyway. There's even an achievement for letting the dude get a punch in on you.

Phil likes poop, confirmed.

edit: Damn good show. It's definitely better with differing opinions. I'll try to play through Bastion again and write up something. There's some things I can poop on.

steve, developers from abobo or bastion?

i'd like to add that bastion had a very slick presentation. steve showed me a site on how to use my PS3 controller with my PC so I may give it another shot if i have time at some point.

Wow, the UI is really ugly... But if it works, it works.

Yeah MotionJoy is the one I used too. It works well.

Just sat down and played Bastion for like 3 hours. I think I'm pretty far into it.

Unrelated... there is totally an image hidden in Steve's avatar and I'm trying to figure it out.

I listened to a bit of the last podcast, my first time listening to a podcast. Anyway, I was pretty interested in the game so I gave it a little run today. Its good enough to make me keep wanting to go back, but I agree with Phil in that the handling is just a little bit off of the original games, enough for me to get annoyed. I thought the swimming was pretty rough. I got to the end of Zelda and lost my last guy with a few hits left, that was pretty annoying. I think its pretty funny that they made the blocks you have to move shine so people would know to move them, I thought it was pretty obvious without that.
