My Wii isn't put away. It's just disconnected and the batteries are out of the controller. The controllers are put away. The cables are hooked up in the back.

I thought you guys WERE in the same room! Jeez. And I should say you guys respectably shat on the game, you had a lot of great points. The game definitely should've been free, there should have been natural progression from level to level, and shitty installation? Why is it that meatboy can work within itself on my computer, as a stand alone .exe but this thing would just spread itself across my hard drive and make it impossible to find? I loved how hard it was for you guys not to talk about Abobo, that had me laughing. Can't wait for Abobo!

As a 'non-professional' reviewer of games it definitely game me some insight into how difficult it must be to remain objective for people that get paid to do this. All we got was a free copy of a $10 flash game... Image being whisked off to a weekend at the developer's studios, getting wined and dined, playing the games months before anyone else. It must be really tough to give a game a 5/10 after being treated like royalty by these guys.

And that's why publishers freak the fuck out when the game gets shit on and they pull support from that site/magazine. It does sucks, but at the same time, publishers shouldn't be wining and dining people either. There is a whole compliance issue going on there. I was just reading from some game journo yesterday about some tips on being a game reviewer and he said to deny those trips, as much fun as they appear to be.

Personally, I loved Dog Days. Did some critics shit on it or something?

There was a big old fiasco over at Gamespot about it. Eidos was paying for a lot of ad space and shit on their site (which made people think they had a ton of influence over Gamespot). Then Jeff Gerstmann gave the game a 6/10 on his review shit got crazy, Jeff got fired and was soon followed by Ryan Davis and they made Giant Bomb, and later Brad and Vinny came over too as well as a few others I believe.

Dog days is surprisingly decent, but the first one is complete shit. The review fiasco was over the first one.

So I guess Gamespot was pissed at Jeff for treating the review that way after the advertising? I thought critics had it easy. Well they still do but yeesh.

And Dante, I never played the first one, and now I probably won't. I really liked Dog Days because it was short, intense, and the setting was wicked.

You guys taking suggestions for future game clubs? I downloaded a bunch of indie games, and this one really stuck out. Really nice art, fun, and it made me laugh. Also, it's free.

I was going to play La Mulana, but I was kind of intimidated without the use of an instruction manual for that one. It looks really awesome though.

That looks awesome as hell. I'll do that for my next one for sure. It's a Konjak game, that dude is awesome. He always has great art. Also, pretty certain he worked on Mighty Switch Force too.

I played a little bit of it. I was using my TE fight stick though so I couldn't control him as well as I could have on a controller. I got to the balloon fight stage and had to stop. I kind of wished the entire game was just like the first stage. I love me some Abobo. One of the best bad guys ever invented.

The Balloon fight stage is fucking garbage too.

I've gotten two losses by decision so far. I'm about to just give up. I'm not even having fun.

i played some abobo and aside from the fact that it is heavy on the nostalgia factor, it's very difficult to play. i remember double dragon being hard to control, but this is worse. the only thing that kept me going was that i wanted to see what else was in store for me. i loved karnov in the underwater stage from SMB, but i didn't get too far past him. its a fun idea with lots of cameos, but that doesn't make a game "good". after the fun factor wore off i found myself getting frustrated with it.

still, the amount of time spent on it and the clear love of the NES has to be commended.

Yeah, the Double Dragon fighting was not as good as the original. I don't know how to describe it. Maybe it was the hit detection or the enemy logic. It just wasn't as good.

I only got to that underwater part. Abobo felt fucking enormous to me in that level. I hit all the things.

I actually played through it twice. Once with the keyboard and once with an NES controller. Playing with the NES controller was much easier. Anyway, this game isn't really breaking new ground much of the time, but it's clear that they know and love their nintendo games. There are some great easter eggs, like when you stab the hint guy in the zelda level, or walking up the wall in the double dragon level. It was pretty crass, but I think it works given that you are playing as Abobo. The ending where he's murdering everyone made me cringe. I have no idea why he decided to just go on a murderous rampage at the end. Even though Scrooge Mcduck getting curb stomped got a chuckle out of me, maybe it was a bit much.

maybe.

about the seaweed, that had to be on purpose, seeing as it's really difficult to do it in the TMNT game too.

yeah i remember pulling my hair out on the seaweed in TMNT. in fact that whole game was just punishing, and dare i say it broken. the only way i could get through TMNT was to grind for a bunch of scrolls that basically killled everything in one hit, cuz when you got to the technodrome the baddies in there didnt give a shit and would just run at you and they couldnt be killed with one hit. you needed to scroll their asses.

but thats about TMNT and not abobo. off topic. sorry.
