We'll be doing another edition of Born Again Casual live, tonight at 9pm est.

Steve's topic isn't ready yet, but for now, here is what is on the plate for tonight. Feel free to answer and discuss!

1) What classic game console did you completely miss out on, but would really like to go back and and explore?

2) How would you convince someone that has still not purchased a next-gen console (360, PS3 or Wii) that now is the time to do so? Conversely, would you suggest they wait longer? If so, why?

I was going to say "no Gamecube, PS2 and original Xbox" for this topic, but whatever, I guess those are now considered classic consoles. That would just be my old man-ness getting in the way.

NES. It came out in the time from when I was born to about 3 years old. My first console was a N64 but I remember playing NES at a friends house beforehand and having a blast with the original Mario. Definitely would like to go back and play some classics.

It depends on who you're talking to. If you're talking to a stay at home mom, I could give some valid reason for purchasing a Wii and getting games like Wii Fit or Wii Sports: Resort. They're fun for passing the time, especially if you have people over. It's the new hip thing to own. It appeals to the masses.

I would NEVER suggest to anyone to buy a 360 because it is just a piece of garbage. No time is the time to buy a 360. Plus there are no games that I find interesting on it. (If I want to play MW2, I would play it on a PC, not a console)

I can't really suggest getting a PS3 either because there is nothing on it that I want to play aside from SFIV. So unless you love SFIV as much as I do then I see no other reason to purchase a PS3. And if you have a powerful enough computer than I'd just suggest getting SFIV on PC and forgo the PS3 all together.

Topic 1:
I can't really pick just one console to go back and explore, since I have played something on all the consoles, that matter at least, but I would like to go back to a certain generation of consoles, and that would be the Playstation/Nintendo 64 generation. The PSX/N64 generation took place when I was in high school, and mainly concerned with getting a football scholarship and trying to get laid, so reading gaming magazines and following the industry was the least of my concern. I did own a Playstation, but only owned 4 games: Twisted Metal 2, Final Fanstasy 7, Tekken 3, and NBA Shootout '97. After my sophomore year, my 18 year old TV decided it didn't want to work with my Playstation, so I only got to play games at friends' house or the Teen Center, on the base I lived on. The only N64 games that I really played were Goldeneye and Smash Bros., but when all the middle school kids started coming in and complaining that we wouldn't let them play with us, I pretty much stopped all together. There were other games, on both consoles, that I played for about a week and stopped, but the only games that I spent any significant time playing, or that stuck out to me were Twisted Metal 2, Tekken 3, Final Fanstasy 7, Goldeneye, and Resident Evil 2.

Topic 2:
I would tell people to wait for the rurmored PS3 drop coming this fall. If the price drop does happen, then people have a lot of highly anticipated games to pick from, plus the games coming out in the first few months of 2010. If the price drop doesn't happen then I still might suggest getting a PS3, if they play a lot of online multiplayer games, since the PS3 comes with a wireless adapter and its free to play online.

If someone wants a Wii, they either already have one or are going to buy one no matter what anyone says. I would only suggest 360 if they have a lot of friends to play online with.

1. Probably Genesis. I never owned one but some of my friends did. They'd come play NES at my place and I'd go to their place to play genesis. I probably never got the full gamut of games on that system and wouldn't mind going through it's library. I never got into PS1 games either, but there's nothing that interests me enough to go out and get games for that system.

2. I don't think there's anything to say to convince someone who hasn't bought the new systems yet to go out and get one. There really is no excuse not to get them at this point if you want them. They obviously don't want them. The PS3 versions that are out right now suck because they're not backwards compatible anymore. So you can't even say get a PS3 so you can still play your PS2 games plus get a blu-ray player while you ease into the new games. The wii is adding functionality via the wii motion +, but there's still only a handful of games right now that make use of it, so thats not a selling point. I guess about the only thing you could say to them is that the majority of the best games for the new systems are now at a reduced price. You can go out and spend $500 to get a PS3 and 4-5 really good games or a wii with 10 games.
I don't own a 360 and don't plan to so I have nothing to say in that regard.

1) i would get the texas instruments TI99. i remember a few people had it back in the day, but i persoanlly never owned one. it kind of walked a wierd line between a console and a computer.

2) hmm...i guess if someone was looking to get a current gen system, i would say now is a great time to get one. pretty much every current system has a solid backlog that you can get at prety low prices. i feel like thius gen isnt going anywhere anytime soon as the big three as still going pretty strong. there's plenty of life left in all three.

I love the PS1, even though the graphics on most of the games look really shitty now.

That was the first system I went out and bought with my own money. I still have like 60 games for it, and I'm trying to rebuy a few that I sold. I have some really fond memories of the PS1.

Dude, did you make it so Steve's mic comes out of the left channel on the speakers? My headphones are messed up and the left channel is broken so all I get is the right channel. I can only hear Phil talking.

Well now I just broke apart the connector to see which wire was cut. Looks like I just broke the whole thing so now I have no headphones at all..
