Really good post, dudes. I really need to watch Unbreakable again. I think the only time I've ever seen it was in theaters.

That Donnie Wahlberg face is still creeping me out.
Good stuff man. I'll get to work on Part 2 eventually. Its gonna be tough because I blocked out so many bad things about his shittier movies.

I only have a handful as well. I have a great one from Airbender, but that's only because I just saw it. I can think of some from The Happening, but they're probably the same scenes you'll pick. I don't remember shit from Lady in the Water.

anything you pick from lady in the water is bad. so lots to choose from. and you would be remiss if you didn't pull up some of wahlberg's awful scenes from the happening. funny how the more famous brother was so shitty while the less famous one did such a great job in sixth sense.

some of the death scenes in the happening were as great as they were terrible. like when that jeep plows into a tree and the dude flies out the windshield.. i cannot stop laughing. so ridiculous and incredible.

Well his next movie is a sci-fi flick called One Thousand A.E. which he is directing but he didn't write it.
Will Smith's kid Jaden is supposed to be the star. But details of the plot are locked down like most Shyamalan projects.

Ohh I had no idea about this. I still think he's a pretty good director, so maybe it'll be good for him to direct something he didn't write.

Im reading his wiki page entry and just read this.

Quote:
In 2004, Shyamalan was involved in a media hoax with Sci-Fi Channel, which was eventually uncovered by the press. Sci-Fi claimed in its "documentary" special — The Buried Secret of M. Night Shyamalan, shot on the set of The Village — that Shyamalan was legally dead for nearly a half-hour while drowned in a frozen pond in a childhood accident, and that upon being rescued he had experiences of communicating with spirits, fueling an obsession with the supernatural. The Sci-Fi Channel also claimed that Shyamalan had grown "sour" when the "documentary" filmmakers' questions got too personal, and had therefore withdrawn from participating and threatened to sue the filmmakers.
In truth, Shyamalan developed the hoax with Sci-Fi, going so far as having Sci-Fi staffers sign non disclosure agreements with a $5-million fine attached and requiring Shyamalan's office to formally approve each step. Neither the childhood accident nor the supposed rift with the filmmakers ever occurred. The hoax included a non-existent Sci-Fi publicist, "David Westover", whose name appeared on press releases regarding the special. Sci-Fi also fed false news stories to the Associated Press[25] and Zap2It.com,[26] among others. A New York Post news item, based on a Sci Fi press release, referred to Shyamalan's attorneys threatening to sue the filmmakers; the attorneys named were non-existent.
After an AP reporter confronted Sci-Fi Channel president Bonnie Hammer at a press conference, Hammer admitted the hoax, saying it was part of a guerrilla marketing campaign to generate pre-release publicity for The Village. This prompted Sci-Fi's parent company, NBC Universal, to state that the undertaking was "not consistent with our policy at NBC. We would never intend to offend the public or the press and we value our relationship with both."[27]

Oh my god.

well i actually kind of respect that a bit. thats the kind out outside of the norm shit he was good at. i think his story is really about a guy caught up in his own hype. so much so that it caused him to kind of abandon what he was good at, which was trying different shit, and just using his twist formula since people thought it was so great. either that or he really was just a flash in the pan.

The lion scene! HAHAHAHAHAHA I barely even remember that part happening. Man, the Happening is just SO bad... I have yet to watch lady in the water. I want to see it. I kind of want to finish Last Air Bender as well.

One of the writers on joblo.com does a column called The Unpopular Opinion and today it was defending The Last Airbender. Phil, I figured you would enjoy it.

I agree with many of his thoughts. Though I don't think the character arcs for Aang and Zuko were good... they were pretty shitty. And while Zuko was one of the better actors, I wouldn't say he was incredible. I still laughed at some of his delivery.

i still think he is not a director. a lot of the deliveries from really good actors in his films are just awful. its not them, it is him. most of his dialogue is also laughable.

he would be better off being a producer, coming up with ideas and getting someone more talented to write/direct and run the show.

hah lets get this straight. a producer's job is NOT to come up with creative ideas. their job is to secure funding, balance the checkbooks, and hire the talent. i cant tell you how many times i've worked with producers who thought THEY were the creative team. it leads to disaster.

He tried that with Devil and it didn't work out so well. But there's the argument that the dude who directed Devil wasn't the most talented guy anyway.

Will this next one be an entrant into the Best or Worst category?

from joblo.com
Quote:
Just when you thought you were safe from April Fool's jokes comes this gem, which, according to an official Columbia press release, is the real deal.

Not only are Jaden and Will Smith reteaming for another film, it's going to be under the direction of none other than the auteur fallen from grace, M. Night Shyamalan. Here's the official word about the untitled film:

Jaden Smith is set to star opposite his father, Will Smith, for director M. Night Shyamalan in an untitled sci-fi adventure, it was announced today by Doug Belgrad, president of Columbia Pictures. Shyamalan and Will Smith will produce with James Lassiter, Jada Pinkett Smith and Ken Stovitz, Smith’s partners at Overbrook Entertainment. The screenplay is by M. Night Shyamalan and Gary Whitta.

Set 1,000 years into the future, a young boy navigates an abandoned and sometimes scary Earth to save himself and his estranged father after their ship crashes.

A "sometimes scary Earth?" Is this a serious plot synopsis? So, who will win out, the irrepressible charm of the Smith family, or Shyamalan's assuredly wooden script? Despite all his abilities, Smith has not had the power to make lackluster movies (especially sci-fi ones) good by himself (I AM LEGEND, I ROBOT, HANCOCK, etc.) and pairing him with Shyamalan does not seem like the best plan to launch him back into blockbuster stardom.

I would almost be fine with Shyamalan directing, but why anyone still lets this man get near a screenplay, I have no idea. He and George Lucas need to attend some sort of support group for directors who can't write. At least with the Smiths involved we know there's some talent present in this project, but what the end result will be is anyone's guess.

What do you make of this?

I saw that on neogaf earlier (Gary Whitta posts there). I like Whitta a lot as a person, but I thought Book of Eli was so terrible that I can't be optimistic for his work. Shyamalan plus Whitta PLUS a Smith combo sounds like the perfect storm of terrible!
