i went to the bookstore the other day not really knowing what i wanted, but came out with bram stoker's "dracula". the OG. we take it for granted that dracula exists as he does today, but like this was pretty awesome when it came out in 1912 (i think). i guess its kind of wierd to think that dracula is what he is today, and this is where it all started from.

i've always wanted to read it, and so far im loving it, and so far the coppola movie version has a lot going for it in relation to the book. dracula is this totally old, creepy douche with a long mustache living in a gigantic, shitty castle. that's pretty great if you ask me. for some reason i love it when he's walking around talking to hawkins. one thing i dont think i picked up from the movie version was why dracula was buying property in london in the first place, so hopefully that'll be cleared up. maybe he just wants to be modern?

dracula. fucking great.

I just read Deathly Hallows again yesterday, awesome book. There is no way a film will do that book justice, I don't care if they do it in two parts.

Just finished Thelonious Monk: The Life and Times of an American Original , a biography of my favorite musician, Thelonious Monk. It's not just a bio, it's more or less the most thorough history of bebop music and the decline of jazz as a mainstream music. For a guy like me it's thoroughly fascinating, but at times too dense with information. A lot of names are dropped all the time, and while I know a fair amount about the music, there are dozens of people I've never even heard of. But there are tons of great anecdotes. A very good book. I was glad to finally learn more about one of my personal heroes.

I finished Sarah Vowell's The Lonely Shipmates last week and I'm now reading Max Brooks' World War Z. I know any zombie story's a stretch, but this one is probably the most realistic I've ever come across.

8-13-2009 - "Cesar's Way: The Natural, Everyday Guide to Understanding and Correcting Common Dog Problems" by Cesar Millan

I'm gonna keep this list going since I dont read a lot of books.

3-9-2010 - "I Hate Your Guts" by Jim Norton
This book wasn't that good. At first as I was enjoying it but it got old fast. His first book was better because he just trashed himself the whole time. I like it better when he does self deprecating humor rather than getting mad and yelling at people. The entire book was him making fun of celebrities and people in the news that get on his nerves. It was OK in short doses but just got tedious after a while. You can tell he was rushed to make a 2nd book after his first was on the New York Times bestsellers list for over a month. He should take his time if he plans on writing a third.

Now I'm going to read Hulk Hogan's new book.

I'm reading "A Member of the Family" by Cesar Millan. Picked it up in the Chicago airport on my way home and have been reading it all weekend. Next time we get a dog, I'm gonna be prepared.

just finished "1776" by david mc cullough. it follows the beginings of the american revolution and the dark days of the year 1776. its a history book, plain and simple, but mc cullough has a way of writting that makes it flow like a narrative. it was always interesting to read, and never dragged like you would think a history book would. being that im from NJ and have spent a better part of my last few eyars in NY, its interesting to hear the familiar names and places of battle fields, and also from where current day towns, roads, and rivers got their names from. it goes alot into washington, and examines him as a man and not some mythical figure which is refreshing.

when you think about what the continental army went through in those bleak days, it is an absolute miracle we're here today. if youre interested at all in american history, its a great read.

I'm still not finished the Hulk Hogan book I started back in March but I'm towards the end so I needed a new book soon. I picked up UFC fighter Chuck Liddell's book called Iceman: My Fighting Life. I heard good things about it and Chuck apparently had a pretty messed up life so it will make for a good read.

It's actually a really good book. Richard Dawkins is a pimp.

Pretty good book. It makes me feel bad for Hogan because his life really went to shit. He lost a lot of his money and property due to Nick going to jail, the car accident lawsuits, and his nasty divorce. I was surprised to see how religious he got towards the final chapters. I guess he needed it or he would have went off the deep end. He became almost a motivational speaker to his family and friends. Always talked about thinking positive and stuff. It was a good read. Its not only his outside wrestling life despite what the title says. It starts with a lot of info on his early wrestling days before he got into a WWF ring. I enjoyed it.

Now on to the Chuck Liddell book.

I'm reading 'A Game of Thrones' by R.R. Martin. It's a fantasy book that HBO is making a series of, so I thought I'd give it a shot. It was a little hard to follow at first because there is so much going on, and so many characters, but I'm liking it a lot now.

I'm really liking this book now. It's a fantasy book, but it's more of a political intrigue story in a medieval setting. There's no other races of people or anything, but there's definitely fantastical things like that in the lore.

Usually I take a break from reading during the summer months just because of how much I read during school, but I'm really fucking digging this Mass Effect book I'm reading.

Mass Effect: Ascension

It's actually really good so far, I mean as long as you like Mass Effect, otherwise there's no point in reading it haha.

I like how they don`t mention Shephard`s gender, or how he or she finished the events in the first game.

I picked this up and plan on reading it on vacation a bit. I'm just about finished Warcraft: Stormrage, so this will be next on my list.

I tried reading the other Mass Effect book and had a hard time getting into it, might have to give it another shot.

My friends love that series. I read the first chapter and it seemed pretty crazy. I'll have to finish the first book sometime.

I finished reading Warcraft: Stormrage yesterday, not a bad book at all. Probably one of the better Warcraft books I've read and it definitely seems like Knaack has gotten his groove back (after the abysmal Night of the Dragon).

The only thing in these books that annoy me is when they try too hard to tie in-game mechanics to the narrative. Like at one point Malfurion (the main character) buffs himself w/ MotW before a fight, it just seemed a little ridiculous when you read it as a sentence. I think anyone who is into the game and the Druid class probably just assumes Mal uses the SmartBuff addon and would never have a problem remembering.

Anyway, I'm going to start reading A Game of Thrones later today.

Star Wars: Fate of the Jedi series - Book 2 - Omen.

I've been reading these star wars books for over a year now. I don't think I'll ever get through every incarnation out there, as there are already tons of books written in the universe.

I can't see where Star Wars will go when Fate of the Jedi is finished. A lot of books have been done in the timeline since New Hope was established. They can't break away from the main characters from the movies.

except for chewbacca, he gets killed off in the books

Yeah, I like it a lot too. I've been taking my sweet time reading it, but I'm towards the end now. There's so many characters that I still forget who people are from time to time though.

TWILIGHT lol no I've been reading this really good scifi cop drama. It was written by a friend's dad and it is amazing. It's called Virtual Death, http://tinyurl.com/3xlf7e6 .
Set a few years in the future where the world is changing, Street crime is decreasing but net crime is on the rise. A retired detective with a scarred past is brought back as a last effort before everything falls apart. Virtually reality a simple concept but, When senses are made part of the equation it's like real life... but does that mean there's real death? dun Dun DUNNNN :P good read check it out if you have the chance.
