I just finished the book after an all night session. Absolutely amazing... it's sad to see that it's all over, but it couldn't have went out on any higher note.

I'm dead tired now, so I'll write some thoughts like you guys did tomorrow afternoon.

Sorry Dante... the night I was going to post what I thought I ended up talking with Steve about it for like a half hour... so I kind of didn't have the desire after that. Haha.

SPOILERS!!!!!!!

DON'T

READ

FURTHER

***********

I'm not going to turn my text white, by this point, you shouldn't even be in the thread unless you have read it.

Anyway, like I said, I thought the book was amazing, and I honestly wonder how they're going to pack all of that into a movie. Unlike something like Order of the Phoenix, everything felt important.

The amount of characters that were killed was staggering. Still, it's pretty amazing that even though all these characters were killed, there are still plenty left... the overall scale of the cast in the Potter books is ridiculous.

The last 200 pages, like Steve and Dante said, were awesome. I couldn't put it down. Snape turning out to be the hero (even though I knew it all along) was just awesome. He was the true tragic character of the Potter books. The thing that did surprise is how he knew Lily all along. I kind of assumed he had a thing for her, as he never said anything terrible about Harry's mother throughout all the books, just James. He always seemed to have a love/hate relationship with Harry, with evidence going all the way back to the first book. I just wish he didn't go out the way he did... but Harry busting out the Albus Severus Potter for his child was AWESOME. That kid is blessed with the three most amazing names in the Wizarding World. haha.

Speaking of Dumbledore, I really liked enjoyed the amount of layers that were added to his character. It was really cool finding out that he wasn't the nicest/greatest/wisest person in the entire world, yet at the same time, Rowling was still able to give the guy a lot of integrity. Demi seemed to think less of Dumbledore after the book, where as I tended to like him more.

If there is any character death I was sort of opposed to, it was Lupin. Not even so much that I'm opposed to it... it just kind of sucked that Harry just saw him dead. We didn't get to see him go out like a champ, but I guess that was the idea. Surprisingly, I thought Dobby was the most emotional/sad death in the book. Collin Creevey gets an honorable mention too, just because I picture a little kid with a camera running around. hahaha.

The ending was perfect, I really couldn't have asked for anything more. The 19 years later chapter was a treat, just enough to answer a gazillion questions.

I'm gonna miss Potter, but he sure did go out with a bang.

Yeah phil, I thought Dobby's death was the saddest also :( . They cut Dobby out of the movies though (after CoS) so I wonder if he's just gonna pop up in this one.

I'm so not looking forward to the GInny/Harry thing in the movie. I'll probably go take a wizz during those scenes. I hate that part in the book, I hate those two actors, and Ginny is ugly. She should be the hotness. She's kinda portrayed as a ho in the 6th book isn't she? I remember that lol, prolly wrong though.

It's funny how Hermione was supposed to be all nerdy and not that attractive, but in the movies.......boing.

so i finshed it tonight.

SPOILERS

pretty damned amazing. i agree with phil on dumbledore's character. he's a very flawed man who has alot of issues. i liked the kings cross station chapter and then i didnt like it at the same time. it was a very touching scene between harry and dumbledore and was well played, but i hate when stories (books, movies, ect) explain everything in lots of exposition...or just dialog. people talking about stuff isn't as interesting as people doing stuff. i also liked how snape had some redemption. he probably was the most tragic character in the series. maybe more so than harry. at least harry was loved and admired by some people where as snape just seemed to get shit on by just about everyone.

yeah she deffinately brushed right over lupin and tonk's death, but i guess that was the point of it. it was just as unexplained and shocking to harry as it was to the reader, and it gives more scope to the book that there's more taking place then what's centered around harry. she really did just start killing characters off like crazy in this book. the "19 years later" chapter was really cool. i think that ending was very well done and had a nice sense of a home coming to it. any more explaining to any of the other characters would probably rob the main characters of their proper respects and dilute the ending. though out of any of the side characters im most curious about was what kid of life to teddy lupin have? it had a real sense of finality to it all.

i could probably go on and on about it but its late and i need sleeps. im probably gonna have dreams about it tonight. AHahahhahh. oh well, its sad thats its over, but it was a great book.

so i was thinking about the whole bit with the elder wand and harry being the master of it. the connection between harry and the wand is pretty thin. harry was the master of it because he bested draco...but draco was not using the elder wand he was using his own. harry never really faced off with malfoy much either. they corssed paths at the malfoy mansion, and they tangled in the room of requirement/secrets, but harry didnt really "beat" draco. if anything, he was running from malfoy. so saying that harry had won over a duel with malfoy which in in turn gave him mastery of the elder wand is a stretch.

It would seem to me that Harry probably helped raise Teddy Lupin. Didn't he make a comment about him being over for dinner all the time? I guess he still ended up being Teddy's god father even after Lupin and Tonks peaced out.

I'll tell you what, Its a little bit of a downer being finished the series. I actually looked forward to being home and reading them. My tv time over the last month was pretty much nonexistant and I haven't even turned my Xbox on in over a week. Hopefully the next book I read keeps my interest as easily as these did.

I have finally finished the Harry Potter series. I didn't start reading the books until April this year. Had a 2 month break after Goblet of Fire. And just yesterday, I finished the Deathly Hallows.

My god, I couldn't believe how sucked in I got. Every chapter was insane! And well, it all ended well except for the deaths of so many people.

By the way, did anyone else notice that Cornelius Fudge just kinda walked away in this one? Sure, he was no longer Minister of Magic, but they didn't kill him off and we never see his name in the battles throughout the book. Are we to assume he died, or what?

I don't know what to read now. I might read some of the Star Wars sagas.......

I'm not a wizard. So I won't understand any of those stories. 100 bucks for a new book?!?! Jeez, that sounds like college textbooks!

It was 111 bucks, I thought it was pretty awesome looking though and it looks cool on my bookshelf. Its probably not worth it for anyone to buy it but I did pretty well this last month so I figured I'd buy something to treat myself.

Apparently so. 111 bucks for a book never created that was referenced in another book is asking quite a lot. Granted, on the outside it does look awesome.
