I've been paying for IGN Insider for a few years now. Lately I've been feeling like I don't need it (I barely look at the original content they put up, just the headlines and reviews) but over the past two weeks they've been giving away demos, which is pretty cool.

Last week they sent out a demo for Genji, and this week I got an e-mail about getting Call of Duty 2. I don't really care for either of those games, but what the heck, I'll give them a try.

Speaking of subscriptions, I've recently started to subscribe to two magazines, which I haven't done in years, especially with the net getting everything first.

When I renewed my IGN account last year I received a few year of Electronic Gaming Monthly, which is the best game mag out there. Well my subscription ran out and I decided to pick it up for another year. The other one is a bit of a shocker...

Nintendo Power. I haven't gotten Nintendo Power in years, especially since it really started to get a serious case of the sucks about half way through the SNES's life cycle. They recently redid it, cutting out most of the bull crap that plagued the mag for years (like pages and pages of useless strategies), and they have added in some decent articles. For the past few issues they have been doing a four page Zelda feature which is actually quite enjoyable to read as each article consist of thoughts from different members on the team.

Anyway, I got three free issues of it through registering games on Nintendo's site, and then it was only 10 dollars for a years worth of them. I decided to try it out for the year. It's still a rather weak and biased magazine, but it's getting on the right track.

The net might get everything first, but you still can't bring it to the toilet with you.
