That doesn't sound too bad. I was actually reading that people didn't like 4 in the local newspaper. The dude they interviewed talked about how disappointed he was with the lack of Dany, Jon Snow and Tyrion but how he's loving 5 and loved how it opened with a chapter for each of them in a row.

You also have to consider that long time fans have gone like 10 years without chapters from those characters because Martin took so damn long.

I think the first 3 only took like 2 years each, not sure though. After that he hit a bit of a wall. Originally he wanted to do a 5 year time gap after the third book, but after writing a good chunk of it, he said it required so much exposition to get to that point that it was just too big, so he ended up scrapping all of it. Then he started the actual books we have now, which also turned out too big and became 2 books. I just hope the next ones go faster, but he already said he can't start writing the next one until like...next year.

You know nothing, Jon Snow.

65% through Book 3 and I think it's my favorite one so far.

Book3:My dad is reading Storm, and he just said 'something is gonna happen', and I looked over to see the beginning of the Red Wedding. He has no idea.

hahahahaha. I'd get out of that room as to avoid getting hit with the book after he throws it across the room.

Alright, I can't find the page I once had with good explanations of the theories goin' round. I'll try to mention the ones I remember off the top of my head.

First, there's Jon's 'death.' The prologue has Varamyr Sixskins dieing and thinking about which of his pack he would jump into, and as we know, the Stark children have some serious Warginess going on. John whispering to Ghost before he dies also helps to imply that that is where his mind will be residing.

In the details of Jon's death, you can piece together a fulfillment of the Azor Ahai prophecy, and while I think that is what it is implying, you never know what's going to happen in this series. The smoke would be the condensation in the air from Jon's wound, the salt being Bowen Marsh's tears, and the bleeding star being the bloody heraldry (a star) of the dude that Wun Wun killed. On a more obvious note, Melisandre mentions earlier that she asks to see Azor Ahai in her flames (Stannis), but sees Jon...what else, what else....Oh yeah, the theory of what will happen next is that Melisandre will bring back Jon like we've seen Thoros do before, and having died, Jon will be free of his vows to the Watch, and free to crush Ramsay Bolton. I typed that last bit with my boner, by the way.

I don't remember all the exact details of this one, but in the first book, when Dany asks that witch lady that turned Drogo into a vegetable when he would return to her, she gives a response about the sun setting in the west and rising in the west, yadda yadda. I don't remember every line from that, but people have also pieced together a fulfillment of that 'prophecy.' The only piece I remember is that Quentyn Martell is the sun (Martell's sigil) that rose in the west (Dorne) and set in the east (melted like an idiot). That also makes his story seem less pointless, if so. There's also something about the vomiting she was doing at the end, or maybe it was some blood down in the fun zone, that meant she was pregnant/able to make buns in her oven again.

Last one I'll mention is how Dany is told to beware of the mummer's dragon by some lady sometime ago (book 2?). Well, there's a new Targaryen in town, and he's backed by our favorite dongless mummer. There's also a detail about Illyrio being promised by Viserys to be his Master of Coin once he was in the Iron Throne, so that would be Illyrio's motive to push a new phony candidate into the mix. If Varys' only motivation is as he says, for the realm, then his motive would be the hope that someone groomed to rule by Illyrio and Varys won't be a shit head. I vaguely remember there being a rumor about Aegon being Ilyrio's son somehow...maybe it was that Ilyrio's dead wife had purple eyes also? I don't remember.

Hopefully some of that made sense...

I felt the same way but I did think of that second spoilered paragraph in Dante's post and I kind of became fine with it.

Just finished GoT, man that was a great book. Definitely ended on a "you need to go buy the 2nd book now" note, which is absolutely fine with me. I have a lot of praise for this book but I'd just be rehashing all the feelings everyone's aware of, how fucking awesome everything is. My favorite parts were above all the Tyrion sections, his witty japes and attitude were the most endearing and interesting parts. Oh and I'm really pissed Ned's dead. I spoiled it for myself by googling Ned stark (instasearch was on and showed my the most faq) halfway through the book, so it wasn't a killer spoiler but still the end of the matter is he's dead and it fucking sucks, but I know great things are going to come from it, it had to happen for Robb to become KING IN THE NORTH!!!!!! I haven't thrown my fist in the air and yelled YEAH this much since The Dark Tower, looks like I found a new series to call home for awhile. :)

Ned died because he's dumb. There are much less "fair" deaths in the book. Prepare yourself for rage.

So, there were a few changes from the book in tonight's episodes. I usually try to treat it as an adaptation and not bother with the differences, but two bothered me.

First, killing the Tickler now. That scene in SoS where Arya kills him and is screaming the lines he used to interrogate people was great. Would've liked to see that on screen.

Also, Brienne killing dudes. Doesn't she get her first kill in AFFC? Not a huge deal, but I really liked that part of her story arc.

I also read an interesting comment on reddit about Brienne's parts tonight. They really emphasized Catelyn promising to let Brienne kill Stannis, and the commenter suggested that the Brienne's word at the end of Feast is 'Stannis,' to remind Catelyn of that promise. An interesting possibility.
