I dunno if anyone out there feels like it but I need to design a logo for my comic, new site and Banner and I have no idea how to make logos...if anyone can either make me futuristicish/italicized logos saying Synergy or The Art of John Still I would love them forever.


Either that or can someone point me in the right direction?

When I was pursuing art and design in highschool and I wanted something generic yet still look reasonably professional I would just do a quick google search.

The template is like this:

X photoshop tutorial

wherein X is the thing you want to do.

Removing red eye photoshop tutorial

grunge brush effects photoshop tutorial

rain effect photoshop tutorial

You will get a lot of cheesy ones but if you sift through it long enough you'll either find a decent one, or learn a few tricks to come up with your own.

It sounds from the way you're talking you might also be looking to just find a nice font of some kind to use over a black background. In which case I'd just type in something like "free fonts" into google and browse a few font libraries.

I always just found a sleek looking font, put it over a black background layer, and then did some awesome grunge / splatter type brushwork in between the two layers to help draw some attention to it. Looks stylized and artistic.

They ended up looking like this





The first one is obviously a piss poor example, I did both in my grade 9 art class, there's tons of design problems with the Epidemic Needle one, mainly with the font colour being unreadable in contrast to everything else going on.

For both of those it was just generic fonts and using grunge brush sets I downloaded of the internet for Photoshop 7.0



This one I did for one of the threads on this forum, all it is comprised of is a stock photo and then I grabbed some nice free fonts. Some really kickass fonts over a nice black background does really well in my opinion and is easy as shit to do.

No offense to Baltar, but I would avoid his "swoosh" example. The swoosh has been done to death by this point and it's late 90's logo design at its finest.

You want something simple. Something that would be just as recognizable in a metallic style font or in just plain black.

If I find time I'll try and throw a little something together for you to at least get started and how to begin thinking about it.

haha dude, not my example, I just pulled it off some dude's website. I hate the swoosh thing too actually, it's right up there with comic sans for me. However, it's ridiculously easy to do and looks better than some home-made crap people try to throw together.

The favourite thing I posted in terms of logo was that 'blue lagu' one. It's simple and I understand what the fuck is going on. Just, anytime you type shit into a search filter you get 100 crap tutorials before a decent one showed up.

You have no idea how many fucking things popped up with that fake, plastic looking metal crap look to it before I even hit that swoosh. Yet for some reason I can find no examples right now.

that would be amazing Phil...I just need something I can slap on my comic book and promo materials for my character...kind of like the Shamoozal logo you guys have haha. Yeah I checked out a few of these tutorials and most people suggested I DL Adobe Illustrator however every one I have been trying to "buy" has virus comments so I dont get those copies.

Illustrator isn't going to solve any issues. The difference between AI and PS is that AI uses vector based graphics, so things can be scaled and not lose any sort of detail. It has other advantages but that's the biggie. Just experiment with different type. dafont.com has lots of cool fonts, you could probably find something close to what you're looking for and tweak it a bit.

Logo design is tough work. Don't expect to blow through it in a sitting.
