It's an animatic for a short I'm working on for my demo reel. I'm not going to describe it too much because I want to see if it reads without a lengthy explanation.

Any tips on the acting are greatly appreciated.

All the keyframes looked pretty good. The only thing I wasn't totally sure of was the guy he was talking about. I guess the customer beat the other customer up for butting ahead? That was how I took it.

hah nice start. i like the fact that the trainee's moutache has followthrough on it haha.

two things i would try, and see how it sits with you. when the guy speaking refers to the other KO'd guy with "HE..." you have his eyes looking up. i would direct his eye line towards the dude when he says that. if he was that angry enough at the guy for crossing the line to hit him, i would try to keep it up by making sure he still looks at him.

the second thing i would do is maybe have the guy point at the "line" with his free hand to draw more attention to it. holding it straight up in the air is a little ambiguous. he could maybe even threaten the trainee with it by pointing it at him.

anywho, these are just a few suggestions. it looks good, and i'm looking forward to seeing the rest of it.

So an animatic is just the keyframes? Then you space them out and fill the gaps so it animates from one to the other? I should try it. It'd probably be better than attempting to make stuff out. Hmmm, I need an idea for an animation.

Okay, it's hard to tell from my rough drawings, but the story was that he stabbed the guy behind him with a banana. You can see the banana in the dead guy's back, and the main guy has a banana in his left hand. I think when I learn to draw a banana, and go to color, it will read better.

I had the main guy's eyes up because I wanted him to be pretty disgusted with the dead guy. He can't even stand to look at him, it's like he's saying it wasn't his fault, this horrible guy pushed him to do it. Now that you mention it, I think in the voice he sounds really angry and should be looking at the dead guy with disgust.

In my original concept, he just did this big sweeping motion over the line with his hands, like a model showing off a fabulous prize on The Price is Right. I think this fits better with the mood of the piece though, and I love the idea of threatening the traineewith the divider line. That's going in.

The animatic is the storyboard panels all pieced together and timed out the way you want the animation to run. If you search YouTube or watch the bonus features on nearly any good animation DVD you can find much better examples than this.

Thanks for the help!

Rough animation is done-

I forgot to make him look at the dead guy, and the lip sync isn't done, but that's about it. Any more tips would be great, otherwise I'm nearly ready to start cleaning up.

nice man its shaping up pretty good. here's another simple suggestion. click on the first keyframe of your camera trucking out of the trainees badge. after you select that keyframe go to the properties at the bottom and adjust the easing slider...i say crank it all the way to 100. this will have the camera move cushion to a slow stop when it settles to its end. you can play with that to give it a different effect like try cranking it the other way to -100 and the reverse will be true. that might actually work best in this scenerio cuz the trainee is going into a surprised take and having the camera move almost snap itno place on him might underline that.

i like the acting on the guy with the banana. keep it up!

and yeah dante, like spicychiocken says, an animatic is the storyboard panels timed out to how long you want each shot to last for. this gives you a general idea of how long an action should and in most cases with at least partial audio in place. we do animatcs for every shamoozal episode.

It was already set at 100, I just tried it at -100 and it looks a lot better.
