wow USA just tied Costa Rica 2-2 after being down 2-0 at the half. I turned it back on and the coach and asst coach from Costa Rica were being ejected and then USA tied the game with under a min to go in the game. USA locked up a trip to the 2010 world cup and Costa Rica might not make it now.

Cant wait for the World Cup next year. Something about international soccer that gets me to watch. MLS came on after the game and i didnt last 2 mins.

Teams im rooting for in 2010. USA Italy and Ghana haha. Im gettin the game again and were gonna have some battles.

I'm more of a fan of the English Premiere League.

Used to be a huge Tottenham fan, haven't been keeping up with it though.

I usually throw my support behind Ireland for the WC, Robbie Keane is a champ.

Outside of that I'll put my support behind England and lastly Poland... at least until Poland innevitably loses to Germany in what I like to call a historical reinactment of the Second World War.

I love me some World Cup soccer! My last summer in college I was working security at a Baptist summer camp, and spent most of the time watching World Cup matches on Mexico TV stations.

Ah, it's almost that time of year, when people turn into idiots and try to tell you soccer is better than basketball and football, and that you're an idiot for calling it soccer.

I do call it football or footie, or association football, but I'd never call someone a moron for calling it soccer. Those people or just douchebags and probably don't even really like soccer. They just like feeling "sophisticated" and "worldly".

That being said, anyone here been watching the EPL or the EUFA champions league?

That Tottenham v Arsenal game on the 20th was amazing. And that Barcelona v Madrid game that was on just this passing Wednesday, although terribly boring, had a couple of nice goals by Messi.

MLS is not terrible either, but I only watch the Toronto Football Club games... and even that is hit or miss with me if I can be bothered to watch it.

This weekend has got some nice games as well.

Saturday

Tottenham v Chelsea game 12:30pm League: English Premiere League

Toronto v Seattle 10:00pm League: MLS

Sunday

Liverpool v Newcastle 7am League: EPL

Arsenal v Manchester United 9:05am League: EPL

Manchester City v West Ham 11:00am League: EPL

Soccer is literally the most boring thing to watch ever. 90 minutes straight of running back and forth with no filler other than dudes being pussies and taking ridiculous dives. It's like and ultra dumbed down, boring version of hockey.

Playing it on the other hand is pretty fun.

Also I love that clip of the one dude dropping that big trophy off the double decker and then it gets run over.

meh it depends what games you're watching. The English Premiere League tends to just keep the ball in play even after some of those whiners grab a knee and go down, the Arsenal v Tottenham game on the 20th was a great example of this. Practically no stoppages, lot's of hard playing, tons of shots on net and a final score of 3 - 3. It's probably the best game I've seen all year.

I had the Spanish and Italian leagues though because they love this drama queen bullshit. That Barcelona v Madrid game last week was the perfect example of that shit.

I love soccer though, and absolutely can't stand hockey though, so I can sympathize with your not understanding why people watch soccer because I have no clue as to why people watch hockey.

Take soccer, make it a faster paced game due to the smaller "field" and the skates, add multiple lines to keep players fresh/up the strategy and most importantly add contact.

Also I hate draws so much and it seems like at least a third of the matches are draws.

edit: I do give them credit for having crazy endurance but I find making the same players stay on the whole time makes things kind of stale.

haha it's funny, because I don't like hockey because I find the rink to be too small, and the games to be too fast back and forth. I don't mind the lack of contact in soccer either, just because when someone authentically gets hit it usually means broken legs/ankles what have you, and then you just wouldn't have any bloodly players left on the pitch.

Also I don't want to say hockey doesn't have a lot of strategy to it, because it does, but with the huge fields and the extra men out all at once I feel like you have to be more strategic with soccer. There's a lot more choice in terms of where you're going to put players, so you can beef up defense or attack with extra men. The field size lets you decide whether you're going to play down the wings or try to attack through the center etc. And when a good cross creates a goal opportunity or a player runs through 4 or 5 defenders to score an outrageous goal gives me a huge boner.

I would like to see FIFA start giving out penalties and stuff for people taking retarded dives though. I definitely think that aspect of the sport is starting to ruin football. Also seeing Cristiano Ronaldo getting stabbed in his pretty-boy face would be nice too.

ESPN shows an EPL game every Monday afternoon when I'm off and I usually catch it if I'm not doing anything. I'm a fan of watching Soccer on TV and do not find it boring at all.

I don't follow any specific teams in the EPL. I just enjoy watching whatever teams are playing at the time. However, my MLS team is the Union.

Maybe it's just me, but it seems as though soccer fans feel it necessary to go on rants on how people who don't watch it are idiots for watching "less superior sports" Usually it's just a group talking about soccer and then it comes to me not watching/not liking the sport much and i get a fuckin earful for like basketball/football.

Never heard anyone do this, I can see maybe outside of the US people would say that. For the most part if you live in America and are a soccer fan you know you are in the minority.

I think its worse when people who have never watched it call it "gay" hahaha

Also, I know it was just a friendly but the US beating Italy a couple weeks ago was pretty damn cool.

It's annoying when people call anything that they've never done gay.

I'm not a soccer fan but I find it really funny when people say it's gay/boring because they just run up and down a field, then go on to say that their favourite sport is baseball. Baseball is massively boring with the occasional awesome hit. The biggest difference is that Soccer players are constantly running and have to have massive cardio, baseball players can sit on the bench for an entire inning. While I think soccer is boring I really respect how those guys are conditioned.

Nah, the worst part about soccer is that they act like a bunch of ladies on the field. Just a bunch of premadonnas.
