My DVD/Blu-Ray Pick
Unstoppable – Tony Scott has been around the movie business for a long time. He directed Top Gun, Days of Thunder, The Last Boy Scout, True Romance, Crimson Tide, Enemy of the State, Man On Fire, Deja Vu, The Taking of Pelham 123 among many others. He is a frequent collaborator with Denzel Washington. So once again they team up on this surprisingly awesome action thriller. Denzel is the old veteran train conductor who starts working with the new cocky recruit, Chris Pine. A train mistakingly gets set to auto and is flying down the tracks carrying dangerous chemicals. Denzel and Chris Pine have to stop it. Its ACTION PACKED! Making an inanimate object, like a train, the bad guy just puts it in a category of its own. There’s no evil Russian plotting to blow up a city. Its just a screw up that goes horribly wrong. It keeps you on the edge of your seat while building a relationship between two unlikely friends. I definitely recommend it.
My Theater Pick
Unknown – in 2008’s Taken, Liam Neeson showed us he was a bad mofo who could kick some serious ass. It was a surprise hit which scored him some more badass type roles. In this flick, Neeson is involved in a car accident and when he wakes up he finds out someone has assumed his identity. His wife doesnt recognize him and he starts thinking he’s crazy. Thats right up until some men are sent to kill him. Thats when he realizes there is some sort of conspiracy going on against him and he must kick ass on his way to some answers. It looks like a good guessing game mixed with elements that made Taken so enjoyable.
Box Office Results
Just Go With It narrowly edged out the Justin Bieber movie to take the #1 spot with $31 Million. Since it was Valentine’s Day weekend, the romantic comedy starring Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston got the boost it needed to rule the box office. On any other weekend I’m sure Bieber fever would have won. The other new releases followed in the #3 and #4 spots. Gnomeo & Juliet took a nice chunk of change home while The Eagle did not fare so well at all.
Also coming out in stores this week is Waiting for Superman and You Will Meet A Tall Dark Stranger.
Also coming out in theaters this weekend is I Am Number Four and Big Momma’s: Like Father, Like Son.
