My DVD/Blu-Ray Pick
Childrens Hospital

Childrens Hospital Season 1 & 2 – I’m not going to choose any of the big movie releases this week since I haven’t seen them. Instead I’m going to pick this silly TV show that comes on late at night on Cartoon Network‘s Adult Swim. It cracks my shit up. It was created by and starring Rob Corddry, who most recently appeared in Hot Tub Time Machine. It is a spoof of hospital dramas like Grey’s Anatomy but totally “out there.” Like TOTTTTTTTALLY out there. The episodes are only 15 minutes long and usually contain a bunch of guest stars. Regulars are Ken Marino, Malin Akerman, Henry Winkler, Lake Bell, Megan Mullaly and Rob Huebel among others. You may not recognize all the names but the faces appear in a lot of popular comedies these days. It truly is a silly show that makes me laugh.

My Theater Pick
The Hangover Part II

The Hangover Part II – the first Hangover movie is one of the best comedies of recent times. It is even called the Dumb & Dumber of the 21st Century. Can you believe that movie is 17 years old? SEVENTEEN YEARS OLD! Truly makes me feel old. Its highly quotable, absolutely absurd, a fun story to follow and introduced a new comedy star in Zach Galifianakis. The new movie looks exactly like the first one with minor twists here and there. It takes place in Thailand at the bachelor party of Stu (Ed Helms). All the guys return and now Doug (Justin Bartha), the guy who is lost in the original movie, plays a bigger role, but still not entirely a star of the movie. My expectations are high because I loved the original so much. The filmmakers are saying sure it looks like the same movie but its a lot raunchier. That definitely tickles my fancy.

Box Office Results
Pirates of the Caribbean 4

Of course the new Pirates of the Caribbean movie took the #1 spot. And of course it made more money in its opening weekend than any other flick so far this year. Those facts aren’t too shocking. The shocking part is it only made $90 million when it was expected to make over $100 million like the previous two films did. Slightly disappointing and with two big movies coming out this holiday weekend, I don’t know how it will affect it in the long run.

Also coming out in stores this week is Gnomeo & Juliet and I Am Number Four.

Also coming out in theaters is Kung Fu Panda 2.

At this point, the Pirates movies mean as much to me as the Call of Duty series. They just seem to be riding and milking cash cow at the same time.

I’m nervous about The Hangover Part II. I remember seeing the original in the theatres and absolutely loving it. But did it really need a sequel? Fingers crossed it’s not another dumb and dumberer.
