My DVD/Blu-Ray Pick
RED

RED – this is an action comedy that I actually had a few early screenings for but was unable to make it every time. It was getting some decent reviews that said the comedy and action mixed well together so I was kind of interested. Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, Helen Mirren and John Malkovich are retired secret agents who get back together after their lives are threatened. Sounded kinda fun and Malkovich looked over the top as usual. I’ll probably check it out eventually.

My Theater Pick
The Mechanic

The Mechanic – I’m a fan of Jason Statham. He’s been in some good flicks like Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Snatch, The Transporter, The Expendables and even the remake of Death Race was a fun movie. So he continues his action film ways as a hitman who is training a new guy, Ben Foster, who is a bit of a loose cannon. Its from the director of Con Air and the first Tomb Raider movie so you might want to expect some cheesiness to go along with your action. But I’m up for it. Its a remake of a 1972 Charles Bronson movie.

Box Office Results
No Strings Attached

No Strings Attached took the #1 spot this weekend and since it was the only new wide release to hit theaters, its not much of a surprise. I kinda thought maybe The Green Hornet would continue its surprising ways but Nope! Natalie and Ashton reigned supreme. It made a cool $20 million to top the list.

Also coming out in stores this week is Saw 3D, Secretariat, The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest and much more.

Also coming out in theaters this weekend is Anthony Hopkins in the demon possession movie The Rite.

I’ve actually never seen a Jason Statham movie, but I always want to check them out. They seem like they’d be a lot of fun.

Lock Stock and Snatch are from before he was an action star. So he’s not really beating ass in those movies. But they’re probably his best. Both from director Guy Ritchie and both really awesome movies, but VERY VERY British. Once he made The Transporter then he went on an action movie kick and never looked back.
