KK Slider

Last night my nephew decided to drop by my town in Animal Crossing in order to trade fruits and also see how my town has been turning out. When the clock struck 8, we bought knew it was time for some tunage by the one and only K.K. Slider. I’m here to report that I’m still completely enamored with K.K. Slider, all these years later.

For those who don’t know, K.K. Slider is a fictional musician that exists in Animal Crossing. Every Saturday night at 8 pm, K.K. will show up in town and perform some of his own music just for you. The character performs acoustic jams and his voice is this strange electronic voice which is either the most annoying thing you have ever heard, or the most charming thing you ever heard. I’m in the charming camp. After he performs, he gives you the song to bring home and pop into your music player. The thing is, I can’t be the only one that just loves to jam out to some K.K. Slider. A quick search on YouTube, and it seems like loads of people have already uploaded their experiences from last night. Best of all, people are as dorky as I am, having WiFi jam parties for the event. Take a look.

Unlike the Gamecube version, you can’t “bar crawl” to other towns to pick up additional K.K. tunes. In the old version, he would play for you once, hand you the song, and that’s it. If you visited a friend though, you could find him at their town and grab another song to take home. In City Folk, you can request songs from K.K. to your hearts desire until he leaves, but you only get one song to take home each week. Bummer. You really would need to stop by and see K.K. every week for an entire year just to get all of his songs. I’m sure there is a completionist out there who has actually done it in the past.

K.K.’s list of songs is actually really remarkable. Kazumi Totaka, the composer of the three Animal Crossing games, has come up with likely well over 60 songs for this fictional character. That is on top of all of the other music he composed for the rest of the game including the 24 different tracks for every hour of the day, along with everything in between. Each K.K. song takes on a different type of music, from rock to reggae, which shows how versatile Totaka can be. Anyway, I still love me some K.K. Slider, and it’s nice to know other Animal Crossing fans still dig him too.

Oh, and I finally came across some Gyroids to put into my home. Gyroids are these strange toys based on Japanese statues called haniwa. In Animal Crossing, they just make these really weird motions, and they usually move along and make sound in sync to the music playing in your home. You can usually only find them after a rain storm, but there was a Flea Market in town today where you could buy items from your neighbors home. I managed to buy three of them during the day, which to me, was awesome. Here is some Gyroid madness for you to enjoy from the Gamecube version. This guy actually arranged a particular amount of Gyroids to make some techno music.

Yeah, Gyroids will always be awesome too.
