Mr.Show “Its insane this guys Taint…”

I’m going to take over the reigns from Frank and post a classic Mr. Show skit that makes me lmaonaise every time I see it. Its kind of a spoof of Larry Flynt and Boogie Nights, but its so much more than that. Its got some NSFW language and some stuff you’d probably prefer people not see on your computer screen. Regardless, its just one of the thousand reasons I worship these guys ability to write comedy.

Edit: This YouTube clip has a slight delay on the mouth/voice sync. I’ll try and find a better one.

Read this magazine: D+PAD

One of the recent discoveries I’ve made on the internet is the totally free online game magazine D+PAD. There have been some debates around the web on various message boards (including our own) about the necessity for game magazines in the digital age. Some of us would argue that there are still many benefits to getting a magazine as its nice to hold something tangible in your hands. Others make the argument that with all the video game news sites out there that a magazine is unnecessary since most of the news is readily available online long before the magazine reaches your mailbox.

D+PAD offers an interesting compromise between the two. You can download the magazine as a PDF and it includes embedded video that streams from their servers. One of the benefits of a PDF is that you get a nice layout which has the look of a traditional magazine, it can be printed (sans video, obviously) or read on screen.

Mr. Show’s “Change for a dollar”

I was doing this bit during Shamoozal Radio Podcast#14. I find myself doing the “change…change…change…” to myself a lot and I ROFLCOPTER every time. Bob Odenkirk’s bit as the rich, irate golfer is frigg’n hilarious. You can see David Cross trying not to laugh during the shoot as Bob dancing around like a jackass. Classic.

The Wizard - Where Are They Now?

Wizard Header

I recently watched the The Wizard again for the first time in over a decade. Coming out of it as an adult, I feel like a have a stronger appreciation for the movie. This movie is by no means good, and it suffers from some of the most blatant product placement I‘ve seen. On the flip side, this film is absolutely amazing in that it has captured an era so perfectly. For a child who grew up in the NES era of gaming, this isn’t a commercial to sell video games. The creators weren’t selling Simon’s Quest and Ninja Gaiden to us because we already knew those games inside and out. This was simply something we could relate to as children. As corny as it is to see Fred Savage compare Jenny Lewis’ life to The Adventure of Link, we understood what he was trying to say, even if he did describe The Legend of Zelda. Watching the movie again is like taking a look back on a childhood that we once had. The discussions of video games on the play ground, talk in the lunch room, and salivating over the pages of Nintendo Power magazine. A life that was heavily influenced by the
culture that Nintendo helped create. In this way, the movie succeeds where it didn’t intend to, but that’s part of the charm. This movie was created for generation NES, and no one else. Everyone who watches this movie today will see it for the crap that it is, but the rest of us will see yesterday.

Considering the subject matter, The Wizard actually had a decent cast. Fred Savage and Christian Slater? Come on, this movie was created when they were at their prime, how can we not want to know where these guys are now? Oh you don’t care? That’s okay, I’ll tell you anyway. Let us take a look at not just the actors all these years later, but also the games that defined the movie. So flip up your collar and get ready to learn a few things you didn‘t want to. It’s going to be rad.

Casshern plus The Protomen times Megaman equals GOD

The Protomen is a band that recorded a rock opera album retelling the tragic story of Dr. Light’s two sons Protoman and Rockman. It’s poetic, it’s full of angst… and it will rock your balls on your ass. It’s like a punk-prog-rock Jesus Christ Superstar if Jesus was a robot and spent more time kicking ass rather than crying about everything. I don’t think I need to make the hard sell on this one, it’s simply amazing and you should bow down before them. Your life depends on checking out this album, many of the songs are on their MySpace page, but hearing the whole thing from beginning to end is really the way to go.

The video above was prepared by YouTube user PaulLevering and features the song “Vengeance” from the Protomen. The video is taken from the Japanese film “Casshern” which has been sitting in my Netflix Que for far too long, it’s time to bump that guy up to the top. Paul’s intent in making this video is to show how a really good Mega Man movie could be made using Casshern as a visual demonstration. As long as The Protomen were scoring this hypothetical film I’d definitely buy a ticket. Nicely done Paul.

Cult Classics: The Search for Animal Chin

When I was 11 years old, The Bones Brigade was pretty much the most awesome thing on earth. Every kid I hung out with in Junior High wanted to be these guys. I had a dubbed copy of this on Betamax that I watched until the tape melted. Thanks to the glory of the internets, the video is available at our fingertips. It looks pretty ridiculous 20 years later… but at the time it turned skate videos on their ear. A bunch of dudes out on a road trip, searching for a mythological skater, skating anything in their path… a recipe for greatness. Plus it features Tony Hawk when he was like 19 years old, so that’s something the kids of today might be interested in. You know, he’s the guy from those Neversoft games.

So sit back and enjoy the 1987 Classic - Bones Brigade: The Search for Animal Chin. Pro-tip: If you click on the google video button up there you can go to the google video page and download the entire movie in MP4 format for your iPod, PSP or whatever.

If you haven’t seen Dr. Smoov’s series of Transformers re-mixes then let these be the first. Let me just state that Dr Smoov is a friggin’ genius. He absolutely nails the voices of the characters. The language is littered with obscenity, so break out the headphones.

Youtube Classics - Kid freaking out playing Halo

With all the talk about GayBoy and the awful Xbox Live community, it’s easy to forget some of the classics that started it all. The language on this one is absolutely terrible, so throw on the headset if you’re at work. Now, the fact that this first kid looks like a young Phil Summers only adds to our enjoyment of the video.
