Movie Review: The Clone Wars

This wasn’t my first choice (or ever my second or third for that matter) to see in the theater, but a buddy of mine I haven’t seen in a while wanted to go see this. Without a doubt, The Clone Wars would be very cool if we saw it on TV, however its not feature quality in both the writing or the production values.

The story has very clear spots where you can tell there’s supposed to be a commercial break or an new episode ends. They even introduced two more characters close to the end that really came out of nowhere. Again, that wouldn’t have been a problem if those two characters, one a familiar face and the other is Jabba the Hutt’s gay uncle (I shit you not), if this was an episode on TV, but as it’s presented here its very awkward.

The animation is very stilted and lacks the polish one would come to expect from a theatrical release. The lightsaber fights are a little off and don’t have the flare and pizazz found in any of the other star wars films, and i found the lipsync and acting to be off in many places. Again, this level of animation would be very acceptable if it was seen on TV, however since we’re talking about features here, it doesn’t hold a candle to any of Pixar’s or Dreamworks’ efforts.

Actors in a jungle… for real.
An animated sci-fi prequel.
Attack of the reflections.
A Love Triangle.
What do we have here? Well it looks like a slew of new movies for this glorious Friday.

Tropic Thunder

Tropic Thunder – Ben Stiller is a washed up action star. Jack Black is a raunchy comedy actor. Robert Downey Jr. is a serious method actor. All of them are working on a big budget war movie from a first time director that is having problems controlling them. So they are forced into the real jungle during a real war to get some more realistic scenes. Also directed by Ben Stiller.

I work in New York City, but live in New Jersey which means I have to commute. I take the bus in everyday to work, and as most people will tell you it’s not exactly chocolate and feathers. In most cases you’re jammed in there with someone’s armpit in your nose or you have to stand until a seat opens up. You meet many a whacky person on the bus. Today may have been the day when Phil saw the Wicked Witch of the West on Broadway, but tonight was the night I saw her on the bus heading to Patterson.

I’m actually not sure if this is a Whore Daddy or a Clutch because I was laughing my ass off during the whole ordeal, but it was also one of the most insane displays of humanity I’ve seen lately.

I was running a bit late for my bus to get home tonight. I saw it getting ready to leave the PABT, and I was last in line. As I was boarding, I saw a girl standing at the doorway looking a little lost. She was young and cute, wearing glasses and fiddling with a bus schedule. She was asking if this bus stopped someplace. I didn’t hear where. She seemed a little unsure. I got in and I guess she just decided to get in after me.

The Top 10 Most Rad Mustaches In Gaming

Posted under: Gaming
By: on August 10, 2008 at 11:48 pm

It has been said that the only way to become a real man in this world is to grow a mustache. The mustache is probably one of the greatest weapons known to man. Lets face it, would you pick a fight with a dude who has a mustache? I didn’t think so. Because the ’stache is the most manly creation in the entire universe, it is no surprise that some of gaming’s most iconic characters have rocked a mustache like it’s nobodies business. Some use their mustache for evil, others for good, but all of them are awesome. Join me as we take a look at the 10 best mustaches in gaming.

10. Peppy Hare
Peppy Hare

Peppy Hare has grown old in the Star Fox series. He doesn’t pilot an arwing, but he sure does pilot one hell of a mustache. I imagine it must be hard as balls to grow a mustache when your body is already completely covered in fur, so you at least have to raise one up for Peppy regardless of how poorly it turned out in the end.

Dual Shock 3

I finally caved and bought a Dual Shock 3 controller for the Playstation 3 yesterday so I could get in on some Soul Calibur action with my wife, and whoever else happens to come over in the future and would like to play a round or three. After nearly slicing my hand trying to pry the controller out of that awful and flat out dangerous plastic that companies continue to wrap their products in, I saw that the Dual Shock 3 didn’t come with a USB cable for charging the controller. I guess Sony assumes you already own a cable for the device (or maybe a few others for all your other computer products) that they could skimp out on including one. Guess what? I just paid the price of a brand new and since I can go right over to Amazon and buy one for a penny, I know price isn’t a factor.

Second, I went to turn on the controller so we could actually play the game and it wasn’t even charged! Not only does it not come with a cable, but the controller isn’t even charged once you finally get the damn thing out of the package. So I had to find the 2 inch USB cable Sony included with their console and wait a half hour until I could play a little 2 player action in Soul Calibur 4. I don’t care if this sounds like petty bitching, and seriously, can you ever have too many USB cables?

Did I mentioned how much I hate the Match.com ads?

Posted under: Whore Daddies

Don’t know what I’m talking about? Well…

I can’t stand these shitty Match.com ads. I don’t use MySpace very often, but every time I do these stupid ass ads have to pop up. For the love of god, who thinks these things are a good idea? Do they really think that by showing a somewhat attractive lady acting like she’s interested in an IM conversation is going to make people want to use their service? The only thing this girl is interest in is her pay check. I guess these must actually work, because they’ve been using these ridiculous ads for a while now. I suppose I’m guilty of watching every one I see multiple times because I can never get over how stupid they are. I’d love to be there when they are filmed. Is it really silent and creepy in the room like how the ad is displayed, or is there some dude in there saying absurd things to her to make the girl laugh here and there? You know what, I don’t care what the answer is because I already know I don’t give a shit.

As a little experiment last week we tried out recording the live ustream video during our podcast session. Most of what you heard in Joe’s final mix went down exactly like you saw it happen live… except for this little gem that got discussed while we were warming up.

Sorry about the watermaker and the periodic voice saying ‘free demo’, if this looks like something people are into maybe I’ll buy the software. In the meantime I used a demo. Hope you enjoy!

Child’s Play thanks

Okay, I promise this is the last time we talk about the NES Marathon for Child’s Play. Seriously though, everyone did a damn good thing that day, and Kristin from Child’s Play was nice enough to take a moment to send us a thank you note along with some Child’s Play stickers! I have three stickers, I want to keep one for myself, anyone want dibs on the remaining two? First two to speak up gets them.
