Theater Releases for August 22nd

The Rocker – Rainn Wilson plays a former member of a famous rock ‘n roll band. Twenty years later, he jumps at the opportunity to join his nephew’s garage band as their new drummer so they don’t have to cancel their prom gig. He then starts trying to relive his rock n roll glory days.

Death Race – Paul WS Anderson remakes the 1975 Stallone action flick. This time Jason Statham stars as a former NASCAR driver framed for the murder of his wife so he can come to the prison where the warden, Joan Allen, runs a kill or be killed car race. The inmates must compete to win their freedom.

The House Bunny – Anna Faris is a Playboy playmate who gets too old to stay in the mansion. Depressed about the decision to boot her, she decides to go to college where she becomes the new house mother for a failing sorority.

The Longshots – Ice Cube stars as the coach of a football team looking to be the first ones to have a female teammate in the 56 year history of the Pop Warner tournament. Of course, the female happens to be Ice Cube’s 11 year old daughter. True story directed by FRED DURST! WHAT?!
In limited release is Hamlet 2 where Steve Coogan stars as a high school drama teacher looking to bring his controversial Shakespeare sequel to the stage. South Park’s Pam Brady co-wrote.
Since last week we had a new Box Office Champion in Tropic Thunder, this week we’ll have new contenders to take the #1 spot. Will Tropic remain atop? Will The Dark Knight regain its rightful spot atop the list? Or will one of these newcomers take the lead?
