A Tribute to Winston Zeddmore

There is one thing missing from the above Ghostbusters poster. Can you figure it out? That’s right, there is no Winston Zeddmore involved in any way, shape, or form on that sheet. It doesn’t even have “starring Ernie Hudson” written anywhere on there.

Not many people know this, but Winston Zeddmore is actually the fourth Ghostbuster. You wouldn’t know that, considering he’s not on the movie posters. Okay, to be fair he is on the official one sheet of Ghostbusters II, but he wasn’t included on the DVD release of the movie. Also, if you have ever caught the movie on TV before, like on Comedy Central, you’ll notice he gets cropped out of the frame quite often. If there is ever a shot that shows all four Ghostbusters, they’ll usually choose to crop the image where Winston is normally standing.

Take for example, his big scene in Ghostbusters II, where he gets ran over by a ghost train. Leading up to that moment, they crop him out until they finally have to show him since this is his big scene in the movie. I can’t believe him getting run over by a ghost train is his big scene. That and him getting into a fight with Ray after they fall into the river of slime. Both scenes involve him being a big pussy.

I saw this over at Coldhardflash.com and wanted to share. I’m thinking there’s a bit more at work here than just Flash (especially in the compositing), but its a really nice piece o’ animation with some really nice design that reminds me of The Proud Family. I dig this lots!

I like stuff about zombies. Sure, vampires are cool and I guess werewolves have their moments (few and far between). There’s just something about zombies that gets me where it counts. I mean, is it so unthinkable that a virus exists that could turn humans into mindless, flesh-eating monsters? I’m sure there’s some military research program out there devoted to creating a biological “zombie bomb”, I mean look at all the other weird shit they come up with.

Anyway, since Halloween is right around the corner, I’ve compiled a list of my favorite zombie related movies, books and video games. I hope you enjoy it and maybe discover something new. In no particular order…

The final Friday of October is upon us. Do you know what that means?
Since we didn’t get many horror movies this month, we just get the main one that started 4 years ago. Yes, there has been one every October for the last 4 years. It’s the new horror franchise. And in competition is a family comedy. Weird.

Saw IV
Manbearpig

Saw IV – Jigsaw is now dead. But he didn’t go out without setting up a final (yeah right) trap. He still haunts the living that he feels don’t appreciate the life they are given. It picks up with a man who must find his daughter and escape a building before they both die.

Back, Bad and Bald - Thoughts on 24, Day 7

ta_day7_smallerTony is back on 24, and the producers of the show aren’t keeping it a secret. This is their big draw to the latest day in Jack Bauer’s life, and without a doubt their attempt to try and win back some of the audience that they lost last year thanks to the success of Heroes and the fact that Day 6 just wasn’t up to snuff.

If you haven’t had a chance to catch the promo for Day 7 of 24, then you can do so after the jump.

The Wii-mote One Year Later

How do you take one of the sleekest pieces of technology ever created, and turn it into a big rubber piece of shit? Simple, put it into the hands of dopey consumers. Thanks to the fact that these people seem to have about as much self control as a dog with rabies, our fancy Wii controllers now look like the following abomination:

wii_mote

New Jacket, New Wrist Strap

As you can see, my Wii remote jacket from Nintendo arrived in the mail today. The real reason I ordered these things was more curiosity than anything else, and hell, they were free for cyin’ out loud. To be honest, despite the fact that the Wii remote now looks absolutely ugly, the jacket isn’t so bad. Unlike other similar products that have been on the shelves since before the Wii was release, all of the face buttons are open and accessible as normal. As much as I hate the way the top part of the glove looks, the extra cushion could come in handy for those few drunk occasions when the remote slips, and it adds a bit of extra grip when you hold the controller classic style. There is also a small piece of rubber that fits into the extension port when it’s not being used by a nun chuck or classic controller. The jacket will also keep your remote nice and clean, which is a good thing if you’re slightly anal like I am.

Hostel 2Mr BrooksMeet The RobinsonsHome of the Brave

Hostel Part 2 – the continuation of the torture horror movie that got a lot of decent buzz when it was first released. This time we follow several different storylines, one being a couple of guys joining the club of torturers and another being a few girls being kidnapped by the foreigners to be auctioned off as clients for murder.
Mr. Brooks – Kevin Costner has a split personality. One is a nice businessman who is a loving father and devoted husband. His other side is portrayed by William Hurt as a psychopathic serial killer known as The Thumbprint Killer.
Meet The Robinsons – an animated comedy about a young inventor that goes time traveling where he meets his family of the future, The Robinsons. He finds out he is destined to save the future while dodging talking dinosaurs and an evil man out to get him.
Home of the Brave – a group of American soldiers on a mission in Iraq are derailed by an ambush. Stars Samuel L Jackson, Jessica Biel, Christina Ricci, 50 Cent and more.

Also released today are Saw III Director’s Cut as well as a Saw Trilogy, The Shining SE, A Clockwork Orange SE, 2001 A Space Odyssey SE, Eyes Wide Shut SE, Full Metal Jacket SE, Hellraiser SE, and A Christmas Carol SE.
For TV there’s The Adventures of Young Indiana Jones, Tales From The Crypt Volume 7, Veronica Mars Season 3, Adventures of Aquaman, The L Word Season 4, NCIS Season 4, The Sopranos Season 6, and American Gangster Season 1.

You don’t give a shit what I would buy and to tell you the truth the special editions of stuff is the only thing that interests me this week. All that Stanley Kubrick stuff is pretty cool. Saw III wasn’t THAT bad was it? I remember getting something good out of it. At least the acting wasn’t as terrible as previous ones. Ah, get whatever you want.

Zack & Wiki is out today

Zack & Wiki

I don’t normally comment on game releases, but I thought I’d throw this one out there just to help spread some awareness. Today marks the release of Capcom’s original title for the Nintendo Wii, Zack and Wiki: Quest for Barbaros’ Treasure.

Okay, I’m not going to dance around it, it has got to have one of the worst names in recent history. It’s just a terrible, terrible name. Someone at Capcom was clearly confused and had no idea how to market this thing.

Anyway, what I do know is that considering the amount of absolute garbage on Wii, especially from third parties, it’s refreshing to see something like Zack and Wiki come to the console. It has a charming Wind Waker-like art style going for it, it apparently plays like a classic point and click adventure game, it’s getting solid reviews, and it’s only 40 dollars. I plan on picking it up later today, I’ll let you know how it turns out.
