DVD Releases for September 18th

Death Proof – the Quentin Tarantino story of Stuntman Mike (played by Kurt Russell) as he stalks and picks up on girls to kill with his car. He drives a stunt car which is protected on the driver side and deadly anywhere else during a crash. He kills them inside the car, outside the car, and any way possible just to get some thrills. This is the second part of the Grindhouse movie from earlier this year.
We Are Marshall – the true story of the Marshall University football team that died in a plane crash. They bring in a new coach (Matthew McConaughey) in order to totally restructure a team in a town where no one wants to think about football anymore.
The Condemned – a bunch of convicts on Death Row are dropped off on an island where they must kill each other to win freedom all while it is being broadcast on the Internet. Stone Cold Steve Austin and Vinnie Jones star in this action flick.
Zoo – a documentary on a group of people who are into zoophilia. It was researched after a story broke in 2006 about a man who died while trying to have sex with a horse. The filmmakers interview these weirdo people but all identities are secret and scenes are only reenacted and not filmed live.
Bloodrayne 2 – the straight to DVD sequel to the videogame movie from 2006. Its 100 years after the first unsuccessful movie and Rayne is back to fight a bunch of vampire cowboys led by Billy The Kid. That’s got to be a joke, right?
Gracie – another straight to DVD movie about a 15 year old girl who fights to be able to play on the boy’s varsity soccer team at her high school. A women’s rights movie so it must be chock full of Female Empowerment.
Two other straight to DVD releases that didn’t have cover art on www.joblo.com (where I get all my movie info) for this week are the animated Superman: Doomsday about the death of Superman and also Blade: House Of Chthon, which is the 4th installment of the Blade series but this time starring rapper Sticky Fingaz as Blade.
As for special editions this week we have a good amount of them. Here’s the rundown: Commando, Wall Street, Deliverance, Troy, Saturday Night Fever, Flashdance, and Selena.
For TV shows we get Smallville Season 6, Boston Legal Season 3, Ghost Whisperer Season 2, Everybody Loves Raymond Season 9, Married With Children Season 7, Stargate Atlantis Season 3, and the entire Josie & The Pussycats Series.

Believe it or not, when Metroid II debuted on the Gameboy in 1991, it was sort of a big deal. While the original title still holds a dear place in my heart, I honestly can’t say it has aged with grace. While the core idea of the game is still a great idea, the actual level structure, along with the “bomb and shoot every block” design philosophy isn’t exactly the most sound. Metroid II not only set out to satisfy fans of the original, but also to alleviate some of the problems of the original. At the same time, it needed to overcome and use to its advantage, the limited Gameboy technology.
