Listening to The Howard Stern show from yesterday revealed that show staffer Richard Christy has just finished recording four different characters for Metalocalypse. The show follows a band of heavy metal head bangers as they attempt to make the most heaviest, death inducing music ever which features tons of gore and violence. The show kind of grew on me a bit. Its aesthetics are a little on the ugly side and the animation is very limited, but the show is well done for the most part, and is one of the better ones on Adult Swim.

Richard Christy is known for his antics on the Stern show which include getting a brazilian wax, making phoney phone calls, and showing his peter alot. Actually, he’s pretty funny and has a distinct voice. So, together with his own metal drumming background, he should make a good addition to Metalocalypse.

Perfect StrangerRobocopSerenity

Perfect Stranger – a reporter (Halle Berry) goes undercover to try to find out if the death of her friend is a result of an affair with her boss (Bruce Willis).
Robocop – special 20th anniversary edition of the classic action flick about a robot-human hybrid cop on the hunt for a gang of cop killers.
Serenity – the collector’s edition of the 2005 flick based on the Joss Whedon sci-fi cult classic TV series Firefly about a crew set to protect a doctor and his telepathic sister.

Usually I save this paragraph for the special edition stuff but since the only straight from the theater release coming out today was Perfect Stranger I decided to add a couple more to the top pictures and descriptions.
In addition to what’s above, you also get a few television series on DVD. South Park Season 10, House Season 3, Ugly Betty Season 1, JAG Season 4, and Dexter Season 1 all hit the shelves today.

I’m a big South Park fan. It’s the funniest cartoon on TV today in my opinion. I would definitely get Season 10, especially since I already own 1 through 9. I have to continue the collection. Season 11 starts back up on Comedy Central on October 3rd.

**BUMP!**

Hey guys, just wanted to post something about the upcoming podcast we’re recording this weekend (tonight around 7:30-8 EST!). We’re going to be experimenting with something new to see how it works out. Since our earliest shows, people have requested that we do a streaming show. Here’s how it’s going to work. We’re going to be broadcasting the recording session through our Ventrilo server while we’re doing it. So you can log on and listen in and hear all our screw ups and naughty language, completely unedited.

Note: You do not need a microphone to do this. All you do is log in and listen. If you want to talk to each other in there, go ahead… we just won’t be able to hear you (this time). If this works out, next time we’ll see about using the Vent server in the show so you guys can be a part of the show.

Theater Releases for August 17th

One of the most anticipated comedies of the summer, possibly of all time, is hitting theaters TODAY!!! TODAY!!!! Also another medieval times type movie with knights and swords and stuff. Then there’s also the remake of Invasion of the Body Snatchers. Will they take down the “50 million dolla opening weekend”, Rush Hour 3. Only time will tell.

Superbad
Michael Cera, Jonah Hill, and McLovin

Superbad – from writers Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, comes the story of 3 nerdy teenagers who prepare to leave high school and head to college. Before they do this, they plan on getting drunk and banging girls. Sounds like a good plan. This is being hyped as the comedy to end all comedies, like an Animal House of modern times. Its supposed to be some of the filthiest and funniest dialogue in YEARS.

The Last Legion
“Look how big my sword is!”

Metroid Prime 3: Corruption Preview

metroid-prime-3.jpg

So tonight, Nintendo released two new videos to Wii owners who have downloaded the “Prime Preview”. The first one is another instructional video of a female voice telling us about the “Ped suite”. Its basically a back pack that holds phazon that can be used sparingly to boost armor and weapons temporarily. The voice tells us that it is currently being tested by a bunch of marines, and that there has been no known illness or side-effects of the back pack on the men. However, the last images of the clip show a marine getting a twitchy arm and looking about nervously. I didn’t quite see how this fit in with Samus, but after “painting” with the remote twice in a row, I found a second picture hiding behind the video clips. Its a closeup of Samus in what I think is most likely the Ped Suite because the design on her chest is similar to the schematics shown in the clip.

In the second clip, we see in-game footage of Samus fighting off some Space Pirates. It looked like this happens early on in the game as she only has two energy containers. Things don’t seem to be going well for her as all of her power shots and missiles appear to bounce off of them. However, about 2/3 through the clip, something happens, and her life gauge is replaced with “energy container injected”. She now has a new power bar there and she’s kicking rear. The bar goes down every time she shoots. The clips ends there.

If I was to take a guess, I would say that the Ped Suite allows Samus the ability to use stored energy containers instead of phazon and focus them into her cannon and suit. Of course, that’s just a total shot in the dark and I could be completely wrong.

Next Level Videogames = Gamer bliss

In South Jersey, there aren’t many options when it comes to buying rare and classic video games. Obviously we can look up anything we want to on eBay, but nothing beats browsing around, holding items, looking at them, and salivating over their very presence. High off my Gamestop haul from a few months back, I asked an acquaintance where I could find old Dreamcast games (since the one Gamestop was clearing out DC titles, but only rubbish like NFL2k). He pointed me towards Next Level Videogames, a privately owned joint that was apparently only 30 minutes away from my house.

Next Level

The Great Wall

I never ended up checking the place out, but for some reason I’m completely obsessing over the PS2 game Gradius V, so in an attempt to find the title I decided to take a ride down to Next Level Games. While I didn’t find a copy of Gradius, it was totally worth the trip and checking out the store. I nearly passed out when I held a boxed copy of Super Mario Brothers 2 for the NES (used, but still decent condition all things considered), and when I turned around to find a section of import titles including stuff from the Dreamcast, Famicom, Super Famicom, and PC Engine, I nearly had a heart attack. I hadn’t felt the urge to spend so much money since I stumbled upon Super Potato back in Japan. Along the floor lie bundles of classic and modern consoles, including Sega Saturns, TurboGrafx, and even old Atari units. The moment I saw the Saturn, my mind started racing and I asked the clerk if they had any copies of Radiant Silvergun, had he said yes I seriously would have bought it and the Saturn (plus it doesn’t help that I have a copy of NiGHTS sitting on top of my PC, waiting to be played).

Do you wanna see dinosaurs or not?

Some movies from the past are so bad that they’re forgotten by every single person as the years go on. The movie Adventures in Dinosaur City is one of them. I considered writing this big old post to go along with the following video, but I’ll let it speak for itself.

I’ll let you guys find the highlights as they’re are plenty of them. Oh, and for good measure, you have to watch the awful portal scene, you just have to. For some reason the YouTube user disabled embedding, so here is the direct link.

Theater Releases for August 14th

FractureVacancyThe Lookout
Inland EmpireWild HogsAqua Teen Hunger Force

Fracture – Anthony Hopkins kills his cheating wife and admits to it. He represents himself in trial against the hotshot lawyer, Ryan Gosling. Hopkins sees Gosling’s weaknesses and exploits them. Somehow it becomes more than an open and shut case.
Vacancy – a quarreling couple (Luke Wilson & Kate Beckinsale) get lost and stay at some shady looking motel. As soon as they check in, the power is going out, strange noises are coming from outside and they find a video of people being murdered in their room. Now they must escape this sick game put on by the motel owner.
The Lookout – The kid from Third Rock from the Sun is a popular high school jock who gets a serious head injury that ruins his life. Later on down the road, he’s a janitor at a bank who agrees to take part in a con man’s plan to rob the bank for hopes of a better life.
Inland Empire – only limited release in theaters probably because it’s too weird for a wide audience. David Lynch brings you the story of an actress preparing for her biggest role yet when she realizes her life is mimicking the fictional film which ends in tragedy.
Wild Hogs – Four over the hill dudes (Tim Allen, John Travolta, William H Macy, and Martin Lawrence) set out on their motorcycles to prove they can still be wild in their old age and are not going through a mid-life crisis.
Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film for Theaters – a short lived theater release based on the Adult Swim cartoon series. This explains the origins of ATHF who somehow start battling against an immortal piece of exercise equipment.

A couple special releases are hitting shelves including Martin Scorsese’s Taxi Driver, sci-fi/fantasy classic The Dark Crystal, and the David Bowie musical/fantasy movie Labyrinth.
If you want some seasons then you get Loonatics Unleashed Season 2, Dynasty Season 2, The Fugitive Season 1, and Baby Looney Tunes Volume 4.

Out of the new releases, I only saw one, Vacancy. It was better than I expected but the ending was kind of lame. It still worked as a good horror thriller though. And I’m kind of interested to see weirdo David Lynch’s latest effort. He makes some really mind-screwing stuff. Check out Rabbits if you ever get a chance. Also Labyrinth is always a fun time. It probably doesn’t hold up too well over the years but its still a silly movie to watch if you’re in the right mood. Oh and lets not forget Deniro in Taxi Driver. Genius!! I’m sure one of those will satisfy you.

Sergio Pablos owns you.

Who the hell is he, you may ask? Sergio is one of my all time favorite animators. He worked at Disney early on in the aughts (go look the meaning of that one up), and I believe he left for his home in Europe after wrapping up Treasure Planet. Pablos was a supervising animator on the “Doctor Doppler” character, and he was probably one of the highlights of that film. He’s currently heading up several productions, including Giacmo’s Secret which looks totally awesome. I’ll cut to the chase and just get to the line tests below. They’re pretty damned awesome. Enjoy!
