Metroid Prime 3: CON “Streamlined controls make things a little too easy and a little less adventurous”

The older I get, the less I value the opinions of game journalists. Chances are it has gotten to the point where I’m older than most of these people, and I have probably been playing games longer than most of them. If there is one site that I find myself valuing less and less as time goes on, it would be Gamespot. If Gamespot’s Twilight Princess review caused controversy on the internets, than their review of Metroid Prime 3 will probably cause the world to explode by tomorrow morning.

Personally, I could care less what these people score the game, but the part that absolutely killed me was one of the “cons” that they had listed.

“Steamlined controls make things a little too easy and a little less adventurous.”

So you mean to tell me that there is a finally a FPS on the Wii that controls well, and this is a negative thing? My respect for Gamespot has severely waned over the years, but this line alone is enough to make me never want to read their rubbish again. Clearly, I have yet to play Metroid Prime 3, but to list a positive as a negative is probably one of the stupidest things I have ever read in my life.

Congrats Gamespot, you did it again!

edit: Now that I’ve put a few hours onto Prime 3, I can safely say that the control in no way cheapens the experience. It only heightens it.

What idiots. It might be that particular frame but Samus doesn’t look like a she in that picture.

I have no opinion on the new Metroid so far, but I do agree that most game reviews are generally worthless. I like reading some people’s impressions of a game, but in an age of mail-order game rentals and downloadable demos the written game review is becoming more or less obsolete.

I find that I respect the views of certain journalists. I like a few guys like Jeremy Parish, Chris Koehler, Shane Bettenhausen, Mark McDonald, and Matt Casamassina. Even when I disagree with them, I still respect their opinions, as they’re usually well thought out.

I also respect the Angry Video Game nerd’s opinions as well.
