Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet

I was following this thread over at AnimationNation.com from Michel Gagne’s upcoming game, Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet. I’ve written about Gagne before, and it seems the man is up to his old tricks by now working on what looks like a really fun shooter that is remeniscent of the interstitials he did for Nickelodeon last Holloween.
All the artowk is flat and in silhouette but moves with extremely smooth and fluid animation. An earlier version of the teaser he posted said that ITSP was going to be hitting the Xbox360 in 2008, however a new version of the teaser has been posted with that line removed. More info and a link to the trailer after the jump…
He is still looking for a publisher, so its possible he’s just keeping all doors open to him at this point. I think that he is gearing the game as a downloadable on one of the three major consoles. I could totally see this working very well on either the 360 or PS3’s marketplace if priced at say ten or fifteen dollars. I’m assuming that this simply wouldn’t fly on the Wii’s Shop Channel as everything on there has already been published at some point by a larger company like Konami or Nintendo itself. Xbox Live Arcade is obviously far ahead of the curve here, and even Sony’s store offers more diverse titles than the Wii. However, its been long rumored that the WiiWare section would be a home to smaller niche games made by publishers to experiment and take advantage of the Wii’s unique controller.

I’m assuming ITSP’s controls are possibly similar to Geometry War’s in that your ship and its gun can be moved independently from each other. Its clear the 360 and PS3’s controllers would be more than capable of playing such a game with their dual thumb sticks, but I wonder how playing something like ITSP would be on the Wii’s remote? You could control the ship with the nunchuck and point around the screen with the remote to aim your cannon. Maybe if your ship had some kind of tractor beam you could use the remote to fling objects across the screen to clear paths? Of course, this is just good ‘ol speculation. Check out the trailer and see for yourself. I’m positive on whatever platform Gagne’s game ends up on it will be a blast.
