From Blue Sky Animation Studio comes the new trailer for Horton which based off the beloved Dr. Seuss book. Of course, its been getting unfairly raked over the coals over at CartoonBrew, but I think it looks pretty decent so far.

I like the visual style, the fact that it was done by the same team as Ice Age is encouraging. Not crazy about the Jim Carrey / Steve Carrell thing. Seems like the movie could be too focused on them hamming it up as their established characters.

Starring: Jim Carrey as Jim Carrey playing a crazy Elephant.

i think i agree with the jim carrey bit. the elephant character, horton, is supposed to be shy and bashful not zany and over the top. i think if anything that has most people up in arms about it.

however, i think it looks really good. pulling off something so iconic and illustrative as the dr. suess material let alone doing that in CGI is a tough task, and i think blue sky did a great job.

plus, contrary to most other animation “fans”, i like to see stuff do well. if animated movies do well, it encourages other studios to follow suit and creates jobs. this is especially true in the east where blue sky is the only game in town doing feature work in-house.

i wish them nothing but the best with it.
